Can someone explain to me how a 24 hour race event like this is done. Do teams race throughout the 24 our period with team members participating in shifts? Is that essentially the jist of it?
This is a link to the race http://www.warriorssociety.org/Event...eral_info.html Agustin

Race starts at say 12pm on Saturday and runs until 1pm on Sunday. Everybody on your team must do at least one lap. It is basically a relay race. One team member goes out for a lap. When he/she comes in you hand off the baton and the next team member goes out. Yes your team races continuously for the 24hrs. You can break down how the laps are run. If each member wants to do 4 laps in row, they can....etc. As long as each member does one lap, you can pretty much do as you wish. Some people don't do well racing at night with lights, so often you schedule your stronger night riding racers for the night laps. At the 24hrs of Idylwild 2 years ago, we did 2 night laps in a row on a 5 man team, so that everyone would get a little more time to sleep. Corporate teams are really fun. Most riders end up doing 2 or 3 laps and you usually have a lot of time in between your laps. 24hr races are a lot of fun and usually have a really great vibe. If I wasn't working this event, I would be racing it. mtnbikej |

Thing is....if you drop or lose your baton during the course of your lap, you will be penalized a lap. mtnbikej |

Spectators are welcome to wander the course. Each team will be assigned a designated camping area where they will be stationed during the race. Each registered team will be required to provide (1) volunteer for a 4hr shift. This usually ends up meaning that they become course marshalls for the thier time block. We do this because of the amount of manpower it takes to run the event, while keeping the prices down. This is usually someone that is not on the race team. Usually a member of your support team or a friend that comes along specifically for this reason. mtnbikej Quote:
Yup.....that is why you always make sure you know where the baton is and that it is secure. mtnbikej Last edited by mtnbikej; 04-24-2006 at 05:06 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

What's the length of one lap, and what's the course like (single track, technical downhill..)? Any pictures? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm just interested. I actually asked a few friends to see if they'd want to form a team. My wife's concerned about my weak back, but heck, I could just ride one lap, call it a day, drink beer and cheer everyone else on, right??
![]() edit: I just read the site more clearly. I guess the trail's still bein built, so you guys can ignore my questions, hehe. |

Most of the trail is already built. We have some new trail we want to get built for this event. Your back should be fine. There is not really any technical DH.....but lots of singetrack. mtnbikej |

I'm doing the 24hrs of Adrenaline this weekend on a 5 man team. This website helped explain things better for me. Sounds like a good time. I'll be signing up for the OC one as well. I don't think the Warrior's one is a Lemans start (run a half mile to your bike first) - which is a good thing. http://www.mountainbikebill.com/HurkeyCreek.htm

Not likely on the lemans start. If anything, maybe a 50 yard run. mtnbikej |

Tires for Flying B?
I'm wondering if switching from my 2.1 BG Stick-E (front) / 2.1 Nev DTC (rear) to something with less rolling resistance would be a good idea. Especially for the 24 hour race. I've really liked the Specialized Fast Trak Pro 2.0 tires. Light, large volume, and fast rolling. |
