Default 24hr world solo championships

world solos are going off this weekend canmore, alberta canada. i used to live about 30 minutes outside of canmore, and it is EPIC riding there.

i know of 3 socal riders that are racing: charlie gillmore of sho-air, caroline goulard of sho-air, and randy profeta of troupe racing company.

good luck to them - its quite an international field!

24hr of adrenaline has a live blog that they say will be updated throughout the race with rider positions every few hours. follow along at:

Chris Eatough won the USA National Solo 24 Hour race yesterday morning. It was the closest, most thrilling 24 hour race I have ever seen. In a category where he often rides away and wins by at least a full lap, he had to fight back from an 11 minute deficit, then make a last lap attack to earn the win over Josh Tostado.

Josh rode extremely hard for the first half of the race, making almost no pit stops and putting a few minutes into Chris by around 10pm. Then the gap grew by a minute per lap as Chris suffered a bad patch in the night.

But in a dramatic, pivotal moment, Josh had light trouble and the gap was erased: the two were riding side by side at around 5am. The one-two position continued for the next 3 laps, as they watched each other and rode carefully. It was looking like a possible sprint finish, after 23 hours of riding!!

With a potential 2 laps possible around 8 am, the two made a gentlemans agreement to do one, final lap and make that the end of the race. Tension was HIGH !! as the two were heading out for the last lap, watching each other and waiting. We ran to a spot 1/3 of the way thru the lap -- they were still together. We went to the 2/3 spot, and waited nervously to see who would emerge from the course.

EATOUGH !! We yelled and screamed and shouted as loud as possible! It was incredible! Josh didn't emerge for 15 minutes, as back problems had forced him to stop. Evidently the hard racing thru the night caught up and he was feeling the effort. Meanwhile, Chris motored through the last 1/3 of the course to roll in alone, taking the win by about 20 minutes.

I just realized we're talking about 2 races here.

The 24 hours of Adrenalin Worlds Championship held in Canmore, Alberta.
-Tinker was here to defend his 2007 title. Was leading till he got mud in his eye and end up losing his sight temporarily. Bad day.

Tinker's recap.
http://tinkerjuarez.blogspot.com/

The Granny Gear Productions 24 hours of 9-mile solo course in Wisconsin.
-This is where Chris Eatough beat out Josh Tostado on the final lap.
-Also where Monique Pua Sawicki won for the women. Of note, look at her times, she turned 18 laps and would have finished 9th place in the men's field.

^^ Yeah, it can get confusing sometimes with each calling theirs the "championship."

Seems silly to have multiple "World Championships". I say the winners get together and have a "Rock, Paper, Scissors" match to determine the true champion.

I guess that's part of the beauty of 24hour endurance racing. No official governing body. But maybe that's why you see so many events popping up. They're already expensive, imagine adding some UCI fees on top of that.

But I hear ya Zippy, it's starting to sound like Boxing with all those Championship belts.

Adrenalin has been calling their race the WC for some time and most of the top racers would show up to race but that's pretty much changed. Many of the top racers
don't consider it as such any more. You didn't see very many of the top 24 hour racers at this one.

Many of the racers have decided amongst themselves which race they will consider the World Championships: The 24 Hours of Moab. You will see those that raced the 24 Hour Nationals this past weekend and more.

De facto, yep. I was emailing Pua yesterday and she said she is looking forward to this championship race in October...

Mario - does this mean we'll be seeing you in Moab this year?

btw - looks like team Sho-air did pretty well at 24-9, looks like it was a pretty tight race.

Yes I may be in Moab this year.

Yeah it was close. I'm doing my race report so it'll be up in a day or two.

Anyway, I had problems in this one in that I was "off" as I didn't have my racing legs. That was obvious to all my racing friends watching real time, including my coach, and of course the competition. But in a big race like that ya don't have time to figure out the whys ya just have to give it all you have for the duration of the race.

I'm happy with our 2nd place result and I'm happy for our teammates DJ & Reb. I told them before the race that the #1 goal was to have both teams on the podium and one of us absolutely had to take the win.

Heidi and I will be returning to the Nationals in '09 to go for the stars and stripes again (unless I have the urge to do it solo.) It will be held in Payson, AZ. In fact, we'll be racing on the '09 Nats course next month at this race which is the championship venue for next year:
