Trail and weather were the best possible, so was the racing. It was great to see you all up there and congrats on your results. I’ll brag about my 1st place stage race and 2nd place XC expert SS.

Have to agree, the conditions were as good as it gets for a mid-summer race in the mountains.

Unfortunately I got a little careless and hit a sharp rock too hard causing a rear tire flat. I was in 3rd with a comfortable lead about to start the switch back descent on my third lap. It seemed like the Stan's was doing its job so I shot some air in and started racing again only to have the plug blow out. No one had passed me yet so I decided to through the tube in. Just as I was about to inflate three guys flew by and in my hurry I inflated with out the bead properly set. Had to let most of the air out to stuff the tube back in and by then there was only enough air for about 15psi. My race was over as tried to nurse the under inflated tire back to finish. I made it down the switch backs but soon flatted again and had a nearly hour walk back to the finish.

My first major mechanical in almost three years of racing, but still no DNF's.

Had a good time myself. Over sprinted on the start and when I got to the upper fire road was passed putting me in second place. Lost sight of him quickly as I was waiting for my heart rate to come down. Hit the switch backs hard and fast and was able to catch him. Going into the last corner of the single track we were side by side, but my legs had never recovered from the fast start and I remained powerless on the fire road. Ended up with second place. I really really need to work on pacing my starts and not going so hard right away.

Arrggghhhhh! Double flatted out this time around in the last couple miles.....

Thanks for the crew that hooked me up w/ enough to get me to the finish! I owe ya a beer! You Feller's Rule!

I got what I deserved for not being prepared. Damn.

Cheers,

C.K.

P.S. See ya next time and I'll be out for blood! (Well prepared and re-schooled on how to change a flat wicked fast.)
