Found this on Brian Lopes website:
A Mighty MaxiAvalache for Lopes LA MASSANA, Andorra , Sunday June 15, 2008- It's no big news to hear that Lopes came down Vallnord mountain in 22:21.84 minutes, earning him the 1st qualifying spot for the MaxiAvalanche. What is news, is that he did this one day after an overnight hospital stay. Talk about a diehard competitor! Brian who is best know for his sprinting abilities in 4X, decided to uphold his "all-around cyclist" reputation by competing in MaxiAvalanche held in Andorra. With a secured spot among the top dogs of this discipline; Remy Absalon, Franck Parolin and Tomas Misser, Lopes went on to inadvertently abandoned his signature hole-shot starts for approach, that proved successful, winning both his first and second run. "It wasn't easy, that's for sure...and the flat sections were definitely the most challenging" said Lopes about his first MaxiAvalanche experience. Thanks to everyone from Avalanche Trophy Race Series; Olivia and George, Joe from the Bike Co. and the boys from Cedric Gracia's PitStop ! Men's Results 1. Brian LOPES (Oakley/Ibis) 2. Franck PAROLIN 3. Remy ABSALON 4. Tomi MISSER

Last Thursday at Downieville, I didn't even realize I was sitting next to Brian Lopes at the breakfast table at The Wooden Trout. You have to realize that when you are in Downieville, you are on Downieville Time. Things get served slowly around there, no way to go for someone that's always in a hurry racing the clock. The guy is fast, but this weekend, not as fast as Ross Schnell from Trek VW in the AM race.

http://www.srtiming.com/ Chris Sheppard did the race for the first time. He flatted 4 times in the XC race & still came in 4th, I think he was up at least 1 1/2 minutes on the first big climb when he first flatted, then kept re-filling, torn sidewall wasn't fun. The 7th in the DH with another flat torwads the bottom, still ended up 3rd All Mountain, guy is an animal!! |

I think Weir DNF'd cause he blew up his rim. Saw a pic of him on RM holding a destroyed wheel. The pic is near the bottom of the page http://www.ridemonkey.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=205661

MK2T9992.jpg Event was super fun! And the riding was as always excellent! Looks like next year is going to be the year, besides Lopes, Wade, etc, etc. Word is alot of top named XC pros maybe coming to challenge the title, we'll see if it come true. Here are some more photos just pulled off my camera. Sorry for the non rotating.... I'm sitting in starbucks in NorCal... IMG_0409.jpg MK2T9860.jpg MK2T9929.jpg
