Hey, maybe we can get EC and Rich to chime in!!! I sent them a link to the thread in a PM.

My biggest complaint wasn't how many motos we get, it was the start gate that was killing me. No, Donny doesn't run the 4X like a national, but consistancy would be cool.

I'd prefer 3 motos and finals. Every time, regardless of class, regardless of class size. You get your money's worth with that.

I won't be back for the SRC 4X, however, if a gate is installed and things get organized, then I will make the trip.

I'm not sure what Rich or EC could do about this, but it would be cool if they'd help make the SRC 4X a must do for the race community.

Is there just too much on Donny's plate for 4X? With DH, Super D, XC, Kid's race, and 4X...? I'd be more than happy to help out with running the 4X if this is the case. I've done in the nationals in the UK so I come with experience

3 qualifying motos and a final is good for when you have more than 4 riders. But I think for 4 or fewer riders, the 3-moto total points system works fine. It makes no sense to use 3 motos to "qualify" 4 riders to a 4-rider final, unless you're doing it solely to qualify for lane position (which is still kind of pointless). This is no different than local ABA BMX races (some larger races use 2 motos to qualify).

But I believe the point you're trying to make is that even the slowest rider should have at least 3 runs on the course (but the fastest get 2?).

It's been my experience in classes with 4 riders or less get their three motos with a final required for ties. I.E. each rider wins a moto (Which I've never seen, but hey-you never know.)

Classes with 5 or more riders compete for the top four spots on a point system (the less points you have, the better. 1st place get 1, so on and so forth). You get your three motos and finals (A and B finals with 6 or more racers-even if that means your B final has only 2 riders, the race is ON!).

In nationals/UCI's top two go on, bottom two are tossed. This is an OK way to race, but you really don't get experience and it's not as much fun.

I hope that made sense.

In most forms of racing with 2 or 3 motos, if there is a tie, the rider who finishes better in the last moto gets the overall win.

The way we did our huge class ( a whole 2 of us) was there was 2 Motos and if the was a tie the winner of the final Moto would get the tiebreaker. I can't see any reason for any more Motos in that situation. From what I remember is they did the eliminations in one of the younger classes since they had like 8 kids.

And what gate is he talking about? The Concrete pad with a big rubber band or has he got a gate for the next event?

Default EC's Reply

Here's the reply I got from EC (with his permission to post it):

The whole snap Vs slingshot deal has been hashed over for years, my personal belief is you should stay touching the gate and on the ground until it is released but things have evolved and it is no longer that way, so I deal with it.

The 4x deal at SRC, I will agree with everyone that a better job can be done, and I don't like the gate issue it was fun once. But I think a little attention could be made as far as the actual course prep goes, gates are expensive and I see Donnie's point in not wanting to have the kind of gate being discussed. It it will take a while to pay off a 4 man deal, and he has spent that money on other things at his series: better signage, better podium back drop and better bike racks in the shuttle. I agree they need to be better organized, it does seem like a fire drill at times and a lot of decisions are made on the fly. All in all we should be thankful we have a place to race even if it has shortcomings. Donnie is a family outfit and is doing his best, a little offered help could go a long way with him. Also if he knew more would race he might invest, let him know!

As far as my deal at Vail lake, I plan to do events off season of Donnie out of respect for what he has done for us, after big bear closed. I don't want to compete with SRC. I want to co-exist for the betterment of the sport. Maybe a Spring or Fall series? But we have to have a park that is open first.
