I had the same problem not long ago, picky eater and all. Doc said I had to change so with my wifes help I did. Spaghetti is easy, you can throw a bunch of stuff in it to spice it up. Pack a salad, love the ceaser too, just keep the dressing seperate. Chickens good, if your roast it with vegetables they come out real well, try carrots, potatos, parsnips, try sweet potatos too. There is plenty of other things you just need to use your imagination...

I eat a lot of soup. Easy to throw in a microwave or keep hot in a thermos.

Im not a picky eater by any means, but that being said there are things I don't like. I make myself eat them anyhow. After all the whole purpose of eating is for fuel and not taste.Thats the reality of it.

A means to help you break from being a picky eater is to stay away from sweets for a week. No soda, no candy, ice cream, fruit or juice. It helps things that aren't as sweet to taste better. It seems ludicrous but it works. If that doesn't work, I can try and think of some good recipes for you that might change your mind about veggies.

BBQ up some different marinated chicken and then you've got 2-3 main portion meals.

We buy the boneless/skinless in bulk from costco. Freeze in the vacuum wrapped packs and then defrost/marinade for dinner.

We always eat sandwiches at lunch. It's $9/lbs but we get the flavored deli sliced lunch meat at the grocery store. You know what? It's $9, but it is also 8 ~ sandwiches. 8 sandwiches at Subway would be about $45. So, I'm willing to pay for the good lunch meat. Buy 1/4lbs of 2 different kinds and use whatever cheese you like. Viola. Different tasting sandwiches.

Learn to like veggies. I was not a veggie person either a year ago. Now I eat raw veggies a lot. Your body can adapt an amazing amount. Seriously.

I detested fish (ask anyone). I eat it every week or two now. Do I particularly like it? No. But it's healthy, so I eat it.

I'm not a huge fan of raw broccoli, but I eat some at lunch as my starter every day. I find that after broccoli and a turkey sandwich I'm FULL. I used to eat a sandwich, handful of baked lays, handful of low fat cookies, some fruit, and still want more. The broccoli fills me up pretty well (I dip it LIGHTLY in dressing). It took awhile to get used to it, though.

Don't like raw? Get the zip and steam bags. Put in raw veggies and spices and microwave for like a minute and you've got steamed veggies.

Seriously, spices do wonder for foods.

If you're going to eat spaghetti, I'd suggest Barilla Pasta Plus. It's got omega-3 and protein added so it's not just parched white pasta. I also add lean ground turkey (browned) to the sauce to add food and protein (it'll go further with more added, etc.).

Find veggies you *can* stomach, and then a bit of fruit (I have an apple every week day).

Salads with dinner, etc.. but you can take for lunch. I use the ziploc containers quite a bit to carry food.

Ya know its funny, people are so different in tastes.I like 80% of veggies raw.I hate cooked peas, but peas int the pod are so good.As well as most veggies, raw for me is the way to go.I like the crunch and not the mushy texture.

I think cooking some veggies brings out the sweetness, and I am not real fond of sweet stuff. Well maybe SWEET BIKES!!

Brown rice is your friend, if you can get used to it. Took me a while. Whole grain pasta as well.

If you want to lose weight, lifting weights is one of the best ways to do it. If you build up some muscle, the muscle will continue to burn calories 24/7 just to maintain itself. For every pound of muscle you gain, it is about an extra 50 calories a day your body will consume, just from sitting there. With just cardio, you only burn calories WHILE you are doing the activity.

Check out this guy's blog, and check out his monthly pictures. AMAZING. I'm not advocating a 1200 calorie diet. This guy did it when he was first learning about nutrition. He now cuts weight totally differently now. It's amazing how fast he dropped weight though. He talks all about what he eats and what times he eats as well.

Default How about juices

Its always a good idea to take veggies it least fist full in a day. There are few natural blend juices out there that help. My parents and few of my friends are trying a blend called Mona-vie that consist of acai berry as main ingredient. Helped my digestion system.

Not just bite the bullet and start eating different. About 8 years ago I was about 250 and my wife was over weight herself. She went to weightwatchers and I didn't. I just read the book they gave her and cut out fast food and soda. I even started to eat tomatoes (which I hated) and a lot of salads and veggies to fill up before I would eat the main course. I now weigh 190 and eat anything at all. Try new foods and learn to like them that way the things you ate before are a treat. Good luck.

I eat pretty much anything, love food and love to cook but I do get bored of eating the same old thing.

I have to agree with pretty much every Allison said. I buy chicken in bulk, cook a weeks worth in the oven and freeze it in separate baggies. I usually cook them plain so I can add whatever spices I want for that particular meal.

Fish - if you don't like it I would have to guess trying different kinds and use different cooking techniques. Take Salmon for instance, here are a few of my quick and easy recipes: marinate in Soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce, pan fry. You can put a little bit of sugar on one side and fry at high heat for a bit of crunchy goodness. Or, marinate with thousand island soaked mushrooms and herbs, bake. This sounds weird but is really good.

I recommend trying various types of fish. For recipes, just look on the internet.

Eating on the go is the hardest part, which does require some pre-planning.

I don't eat fast food so this is something I have to plan for and often travel with a little cooler.

I am always eating peanut butter and honey sandwiches - stores well and is an excellent source of protein.

Shakes - mix in various fruit (I mix frozen stuff from Costco with fresh, but all frozen is ok), soy milk, whey powder, flax seed, wheat germ - mix and enjoy. It is quite filling when combined with a PB& Honey sandwich. I freeze a shake and take it on the go.

Veggies, you got to do it. Like fish, try various cooking techniques. I never boil my stuff because I think it ruins the flavor. Heck, even my kids loves my grilled veggies.
Asparagus and Zucchini, a little Olive Oil and garlic salt, pan fry till soft and a little charred - awesome. I do pretty much the same thing with Broccoli, but use cajun spices.

One of my favorite to-go meals is this pasta:
Wheat pasta (because the white stuff is death), mushrooms, prosciutto, black olives, chopped Asparagus and Broccoli, Rosemary herbs and a bit of canned tomato sauce. Top off with a sprinkle of shredded Mozzarella and you have a kick-ass meal. It even tastes good cold.

Jeeze, after reading this I should probably turn in my Man card now

My schedule is crazy busy with my kids softball so you'll always see me with my little cooler, eating some pre-cooked meal and small baggies of fruit.

It is hard work at first, but once you figure out what you like, it becomes easier, then you look want to work hard at it as the results come quick.

Default Try this...

Rockinthecasbah I try to follow this approach: with every meal i try to stop at the point when my hunger is 1/2 or at most 3/4 satisfied. I have glass of water in the beginning of the meal and few glasses at the end. I do this for breakfast and lunch and for dinner I have soup and salad. I too hate salad but the way I try to gain interest in it is trying hint of new dressings. I am liking the Russian salad currently and crutons help a lot. Try to head to bed sooner because in my experience the longer I am awake the hungrier I get. In terms of packing more anti-oxs I try to take dosage of Mona-vie Acai berry blend. It tastes like pomogrante juice. You can get the Russian salad dressing at several grocery stores.

Just make sure that you expend more calories than you take in. And you don't have to measure it that accurately. itson16 got it right. Smaller portions means you will take in less calories. Most weight gain happens because of excessive portions and high sugar content consumables like sugary sodas.

If you go into any of the chain restaurants, order any of their pastas or glazed meals - get ready to consume a multi-thousand calorie bomb. Eat smaller meals and snack smart in between them so you don't get to hungry before your next meal. Fill your stomach up with something that is healthy but filling before a meal (glass of fat free milk before dinner). I also find that a handful of almonds works well mid morning or mid afternoon.

Opt for leaner versions of some foods. Chicken instead of beef. Fish instead of chicken. Also, some of the packaged foods come in better versions: Kashi has some reasonably acceptable tasting cereals and waffles (GoLean) that can be a good meal.

If I'm really busy, I'll take a Cliff Bar as a replacement meal. They have some really cool flavors out there now. You don't want to make it a staple of your diet, but if you don't have time a quick Cliff bar is better than Wendy's.

An then, of course, expend as much as you can. A 40 - 50 minute ride could let you drop 500 calories, almost the amount of a meal, so just as if you skipped lunch. Do it every day and its like skipping a day's worth of calorie intake per week. I don't live close enough to any trails to be able to hit a quick MTB ride, so I'll get on a stationary bike almost every day. Recently bought a road bike since I can ride it straight from home without the need to travel to a trail head or much preparation, allowing for quick one hour rides after or before work.

Was 171 lbs on April1 and am now 148 lbs. And still get to go to Baskin Robbins with the kids at least once a week.

Ricky, learn to like veggies. There are TONS of them out there and you just have to experiment. At least eat fruit! If you eliminate processed carbs (even whole wheat bread) from your diet and replace it with fruit, you'll drop some pounds. I've dropped 2 sizes and am down to 12% bodyfat from 16% just by replacing starchy carbs (like brown rice) with fibrous ones (veggies). I can even finish Jason's burritos once in a while because I eat like that 90% of the time.
