Default Where to camp for vail lake on Saturday

What is a good campsite to be close to the race start?

Is there a discount? Really 45$ a night!!!

Could I get a campsite there or do i have to reserve one?

Where are all of you camping?

Anyone want help splitting the fee?
I only have a friend coming up with me so we wont be loud, so if you want a quiet neighbor then let me know, or if you want to split a campsite we will not make much noise at all. Let me knoe, PM me or call me, or email me. I check this quite often to what eva.

The race start/finish is going to be near the pools. I think it is Oaks?

And $45 a night is cheap. I thought I read on the website the spots were much more! It's a private campground, so they can charge whatever they want.

It was completely full on Memorial Weekend and they were probably charging a lot more than that!

OK, I am going to be coming up alone now. I will just nap in the car and drive home after, unless someone wants to give me room for a tent on their site.

I will split the cost.

Haha, I think for November we should do a duo Dub. You ride, I'll BBQ. Then switch after a couple laps.

I was just playing. If Pho'dUp decides to open up his spot to you, we'll be neighbors. See you there!

Hopefully by then, I'll have one of these:

We can fire it up the smoker the night before, and the tri-tip, brisket, ribs, etc. would be ready by the time we finish the race. We'd just need someone to help monitor the water/temps.

No, you need one of these!

Not sure how we're gonna haul a 400lb. ceramic BBQ on your roof rack, there's got to be a way!

Honestly, my buddy has one of these and it's awesome.

Default For future reference...

Someone already mentioned Dripping Springs campground--it's a stone's throw from Highway 79 and very close to Vail Lake. I believe Dripping Springs closes its entry gate at 9:30 pm.

If you don't mind driving a bit further up highway 79, fifteen minutes or so, Oak Grove campground is a great choice.

Like Dripping Springs, Oak Grove is a U.S. Forest Service campground. Unlike Dripping Springs, it's open to entry or exit 24-7. A tent site costs a whopping $10 per night. There are no showers, but the main bathroom has sinks with running water and flush toilets. There are several water spouts dispersed throughout the campground.

In my experience, Oak Grove is quiet and uncrowded, even on the weekends. This works well if you need high-quality sleep the night before a race.

Cheers!

Kevin
