RRRRRR UUUUUUU Readyyyyyy
|
firstly good times yesterday. checked out the fun last night at orange Y. brought my 2 yr old and seeing he was a bit of a handful (and all the riders tooling around off track) wasn't able to reach out to too many of the str peeps watching and racing (did c ezzy and mtbfred)...so sorry again to some of u for no intro.in any regard had a few Q's. a lot of the grom were running skinny tires. is this typical. is it a specifc category. what are the overall categories. level & age??? also what is the race format. looked like a few qualifying heats to move on. what is the min and max run you will get during a race night. if u want to go for practice what is the days & times least crowded? thanks and good stuff. aside from the guys totally killing it I thing the best is the real midgies who work like nuts to climb all the whoops. hope to check it out again soon

Hey Adam,
You were "made" by several STR peeps. good to see you and the boy out there. skinny tires are pretty common, especially on the "minis" that the younger/smaller kids ride. They just roll faster. When I raced cruisers (20 something years ago), I ran a 1.5" rear and a 1.75" front. There are Novice, Intermediate, and Expert classification in each age (or group) as well as Cruiser classes. You can see them all and all the rules HERE what you'll typically see is 2 or 3 heats and a main, or three rounds for points and no main, so I'd say expect to get 3 races in a night. Wednesday used to be the slow night at the track, but during the summer and coming up to nationals, it'll be busy every night and we used to get an extra practice night in too. Never race a 15X for money. They don't drive yet, All they do is ride their bikes and play video games. Their parents send them to the track 3 nights a week to get them out of the house. They are FAST!! I can't watch a mini racer go by without yelling "PEDALPEDALPEDAL!!" Some of those little ones out there are actually faster than the old big guys (like me). |
