Exclamation Attention Traverse riders (serious stuff here)

It now looks as thought this coming weekend is going to be a bit warmer..... so please, please do yourself a favor and start slowly hydrating on Thu afternoon though Fri. Be sure and carry some type of electrolyte replacement drink for during the ride and an after race beverage to put back what you've lost in the heat. Remember, the life you save will be your own... and you'll have a lot more fun during and after the ride.

I'll be there to cheer you grasshoppers on at the top of Lower Holy Jim.

Good luck a to all...

This morning the news said "record highs?" for Friday.

Here's to slugging down lots of water all week!

There will be water on the course at several check points... and I beliueve one of them is Four Corners. You definitely want to carry extra for this ride... expecially in the anticipated heat.

Damn! My day was going so well too.

I checked the 15-day forecast at the beginning of May and the forecast for the 17th was cloudy with highs in the upper 60s/lower 70s. Very favorable conditions.

Then I heard about cutoffs being extended a little - double score.

But now I checked the forecast after reading this post. I guess I'll have to settle for 1 out of 2 - or would the heat just negate the extra hour we have now?

Guess I'll have to look into that strap-on now.

Strap-on water bottle mount that is.

At least it's raining. Maybe the MD will be packed down a little. Climbing that sand is not fun.

What do they hand out for water at the aid stations...is it bottled water or in jugs with spigots?

They're in 5 gal plastic containers with a spigot. Just bring your camelbak and bottles to re-fill them. Last year, the check points at Beeks and at Silverado MW did not have water, so you need enough to get yourself to 4 corners. This race was originally set up as a NON-supported race, but it's supported now with water and first aid at each check point.

What? Gene I thought you were going to be my sherpa and hauling water and me up the MD climbs?

Take me, too. I'm light; you'll hardly notice my 155lbs.

Only water will be at 4 corners! Be prepared with a camelbak and bottles on your bike.

What's the remaining mileage after reaching 4 Corners?

is that "the only spot you can get water is at 4 Corners"? or "the only thing we are providing at 4 corners is water, and there is water elsewhere on the course as well"?

Just an estimate, but...

4 corners to Santiago Peak - ~ 4 miles
Peak to top of Lower HJ - ~ 4 miles
Top of Lower HJ to Top of Trabuco - ~7 miles
Trabuco - ~5 miles
Trabuco Creek Road - ~5 miles

So maybe...25 miles with about 11 being primarily uphill?
