Default Mountain Bikes at the BMX Track

Just curious, if a local track were to hold MTB races once a week, would anyone be interested? Not just mountain bikes racing the cruiser class, but designated 4x or 8x races.

We used to go out to the track in Kearny Mesa (San Diego) and ride our MTB...most of the people had DH bikes but I rode my Tazer there and some people were on P1s and bikes like that.

I liked it, but I'd have to say that after a few laps I was exhausted!!

Sounds like fun though...which track ya thinking about?

I've been wanting to go to Cutting Edge. I hear that the track was recently rebuilt and it's very nice. Perhaps a good time for mtbs would be on Saturday nights (normal race time).

Question: How would you define a mountain bike? Some 26" "mountain bikes" are singlespeeds, which is essentially 26" BMX bikes. So is the only difference going to be wheel size, or are you going to require that there are gears? It's really no big deal to me (I have gears), but if you don't let singlespeeds run, then you'll eliminate a few people.

I will talk to the track operator on Thursday night and see if they would be willing to set something up. I would love to be able to race my MTB and cruiser in the same night.

In the meantime, come out and race cruiser while we try to set this up. I will be out on Thursday night practicing and will also race if they have enough people for a cruiser class.

Considering that I work in Torrance on the weekdays, I can't make it out there during the week. I would like to go some time on a Saturday.

I talked to the T.O. last night and she is definitely interested in trying something like this. She is going to check with the ABA and get back to me.

If we can't get a MTB class going, then come out and race cruiser. My buddy raced his Kona Dawg last Thursday night at Cutting Edge. I expect him to be on it again tonight.
