Default Traverse Training Ride for Sat (05-10-08)?

Anyone doing anything on Sat. the 10th I am gong to pick up my number and do some sort of training. Can I tag along with someone, or lets start something up. Are the trails open yet?

It's kind of last minute to do any sort of real training, as most people tend to start tapering off the week prior to a n event.

But I'm tossing around the idea of doing a Holy Jim-Trabuco loop with Pho'd Up that Saturday morning. I'm flying in from the East Coast on Friday night though, so who knows when I'll actually wake up .

I'm still tossing the idea around myself. It probably will be an easy spin pace just to check out the condition of Trabuco b/c I want to be tappering down before the race.

Sebastian. All the fire closures are still in effect. So you can ride BS > MD only to Eagle Rd. Northside of Santiago Peak from Eagle Rd is still closed.

I am dying to hit HJ before the Traverse. If ANYone plans on doing a ride there this weekend, please send me a PM.

I've never ridden HJ, Trabuco and/or the Wall. I really don't want my first crack at any of these to be on the day of the event.

This weekend will also be my last big rides before the 17th. I'd be forever indebted to anyone that could show me around the end of the Traverse course.

BS --> MD--> Eagle & back has been my regular training route. I've done it several times in the last month. On sunday I did a lil over 32 miles & 4200' of elevation gain in less than 3 1/2 hours. While I was pretty damn pleased with my time (and how *not* tired I was!) I also realize that May 17th will involve almost double that elevation gain.

Either way, I am down to tag along with anyone else that is doing some training--HJ or otherwise. Please just send me a pm & I will do what I can to make it.

How big is your cooler and what type of beer do you normally buy?

I'll probably end up riding it, but start time TBD still - and my pace will be rather slow as I'll be trying to save the legs for next weekend.

Dang that's a nice route that I'd like to try Steph. Just not this weekend.

DubJ, I'm free all Sat, so I can start as late as necessary. Might even be good to do a little climbing in the sun and heat. A beer and tacos will still be there after.

HJ-Trabuco would be good for me, but more out-of-the-way seeing as I'd be coming from SD. I don't think my Corolla would survive going up that road!

No worries, we'll be riding up that road! Hopefully we won't get buzzed by any remote control airplanes.

But yeah coming from SD is a long way, on my way home gas was $3.99 for 87 octane. Ouch. I now consider driving to trailheads an indulgence.

Danny, although HJ is not part of the Traverse course, it will get you up to the Main Divide so you can do that part of it. That is more than half way and by the time you reach Lower HJ during the race and heading towards the "wall", you'll be asking yourself WHY?

FWTW, this is the section(after HJ) that I bonked at last year due to no breakfast, won't happen this year, but of course now I have a broken rib.

Ugh...riding down it at the end of VQ was enough to cure me of any desire to ride up it

Thanks to all that have proposed a route. Frankly...beggars cannot be choosers. If someone wants to make it an official suggestion, I will be there. I'm not comfortable saying, "Hey, meet me here and then show my newbie butt around!"

After all, mother-in-law is in town all week. Could there *be* a better excuse to have to go out on a training ride??

I think you'd get more bang for your $$ with a nice road ride...
