WooHoo! This is a great event! I did it 2 years ago and was a spectator last year. I highly recommend it! It is moslty trail bike downhill with one brutal short climb. You want to ride a 5-6" bike so you can pedal, not a dh bike course.

We hope to see you SoCalers up here.

Cheers!

It's a 10 hour drive from Orange County. I figure I'll head out on Friday am, ride the course on Sat, race it on Sun, and make my way home on Mon.
Seem's like a lot of driving for a race, but how often is there a 12 MILE Super D race around here?

NEVER!

The webisite is up and running! http://www.breakaway-events.net/info.php

The Race:

Dropping more than 5,000 vertical feet in 12 miles from Mt. Ashland Ski Resort, the 12Mile superD Race is the longest and most demanding downhill race in Oregon. The single track course features trails such as Bull Gap Trail, Catwalk, Caterpillar, Alice in Wonderland and BTI. These trails offer every aspect of a true mountain bike race and long wooded corridors for reaching tear-shedding speeds. This downhill also serves up about 600 ft. of climbing, sure to get YOUR HEART A PUMPIN'!

Man, I'm all over this!
I just signed up!

It's on the calendar now..... Mt. Ashland 12 Mile Super D Race

I highly recommend this race! I raced it the last two years & will do it again this year. If you are a fast & fit expert class DH racer you can expect to run between 40-45 minutes. My best time, while not as fit as I would like, was last year, including having to pass 4 riders on the way, which lost about 20 seconds, ended up with a 43 minute time. Whoever is doing it from Socal should arrange to get a group together to shuttle. 5-6 people in a truck is a pretty good group. The drive to the top of Mt Ashland from the bottom is around 1 Hour 20 minutes rd trip. You will probably be more than good doing two practice runs on Saturday then just the race run on Sunday (remember, two runs is 24 miles, your arms & hands will be baked). If I had to compare it to a SoCal trail, think San Juan, from Cocktail rock to the bottom, 2 1/2 times at race speed, only in the tight trees & on brown, tacky dirt ; )

Hopefully the snow will be melted out by the 15th??

Holy crap, whatup Linda, whatup Stu! How's Bend? I used to live in Medford and still have family up there, so I've been thinking driving up for this. It would be great to see you guys, but if not, lemme know next time you are down here.

WASSAP!

We were just down there for a week, got back yesterday. We did a road trip with our new little DH racer, Ryder (3 months old now). You should come up for it, Medford is pretty close, plus this race is wicked fun. The 600+ ft climb 2 minutes in is a killer, but the rest is awsome
