Default NMBS In Windham, NY July 10-13th, 2008

I'll be heading out to the nationals in Windham, NY (July 10-13th),but this is really going to tax my already limited income.

I'm looking for somebody to travel with who'd be willing to split the cash on a hotel (two beds of course) and a rental car (could be a van...maybe a truck?)

The more the merrier! Any takers? We'll leave early Thursday morning (July 10) on a flight out to New York then fly back to the west coast Sunday morning (July 13).

Oh, and because some catagories race on different days, I'm racing expert.

C'mon! Let's take it to the east coast!

I hope there isn't any snow in July, but I've been wrong before.

Rumor has it, it'll be a fresh new dope-tas-tic 4X course, but we'll see. I'm not sure about the DH or the XC, but I've heard great things.

I'm doing the 30+ Expert in dual slalom and mountain cross (4X)

(I should have mentioned that as well! I'll go edit.)

I'm going to try a couple of XC races as well, but I'm only rated at beginner for those.

How about you SD?

Kid A-no worries, mate. It's a good thing you said what you said. It helped me clarify! Cheers!

I am actually asking for my man Dan (Man blong Gaua)...drop him a pm...he is from upstate (Cooperstown) and was thinking of possibly going back east for Windham...

He's going to race Expert DH 35-39 this year...I was asking about your class to see if you be racing on the same day...I'm assuming your racing will be done on Saturday since you are flying back west Sunday?

Me, I'm going to pass...we did the east coast trip thing three years ago...went to Snowshoe, WV and got rained on...the most obnoxious mud you've ever seen (my wheels & frame packed up so badly my bike stopped rolling)! I'm from Mass. so it would be a close venue for my family to come out, but then again, I'm not sure my mom would forgive me if she gets to see what downhill is really like

Thanks, SD! I'll give him a PM.

You are correct-I'll be done racing that round on Saturday evening and that mud you mentioned is exactly why I'm not leaving Saturday night. If it rains...I just didn't want to pack a mud packed bike and haul it back to the west coast. Could you imagine how much that thing would weigh???

That, and I'm OCD about my bike and gear and everything has to be cleaned before it gets pulled apart for the trip.

I feel you on the mom watchin' you race. That east coast DH is roots, rocks, mud,and trees! Pucker factor from top to bottom!

Are you planning on hitting some of the NMBS races?

Fontana and Santa Barbara are the only NMBS I'm planning on.

When we left West Virginia, the bikes were destroyed. The mud would not come off, even after using brushes. I tried to pick up my bike and it weighed about 70 pounds!! It was pretty comical, really!

I had a race like that in England. I started the race with a 21.2 lbs light weight XC bike, but came home with a 36 lbs DH bike.

I can only imagine what it did to a DH bike!

I remember not being able to shift into any other front ring because the mud had formed a homemade chain guide!

I wonder how many other STR folks will be hitting the Fontana and SB race then?
