I agree...keep it rollin...even if you can't ride...keep walkin!!! And remember sometimes you can walk up a hill faster and with less energy then it takes to ride....keep moving forward and you will do great!

I had a similar quandry about Sidi vs no-Sidi.

The biggest issue for me was how slippery the Sidi's are in the water crossings on HJ. A few times I slipped right off the rock and into the streams. It occurred to me I could get more injured from that than riding my bike.

So on my last training ride I just said "F the water, I'm ignoring it!" I just walked or rode through every stream. It was so liberating.

Yes my feet got squishy for like 2 minutes, but the pressure on the pedals squeezed out the water and my feet were fine soon after.

Actually, coming down HJ, it found it oddly refreshing. It certainly saved me time.

It's Sidi's for me Saturday.

or...

Do I wear my 661 tennis shoe like shoes that are better for hiking, slightly warmer, but also heavier and not as nice to pedal in?

Both. But your hiking shoes on at the last aid station before WHT

Just thought of something else, don't the tennis type shoes absorb a lot of water when going through stream crossings. They'd probably be heavier once they get wet and probably stay colder due to the cotton/polyfill they're made out of?

You are better off lurking than making comments like that.

They are thicker, though, so actually it's about 6 of 1.

I guess I will ride the Sidi's with duct tape on the bottom and generally have cold feet in the morning! The hike up WHT will suck, but doesn't it generally anyway?

I'm with this guy. Temps look warm. Sidi's with wool socks, my feet will feel good cold, hot, and wet. No special nothing, just slap 'em on and go. WHT is one hour of HAB, a painful hour yes, but just an hour none the less. Just charge through the water like a crazed water buffalo and keep moving.

I agree.....even hiking up WHT in the Sidi's wasn't reallly that bad. At least my feet never really hurt. My calf's on the other hand were not happy.

I would suggest the Sidi's with some tape to seal the toe vents and then when it warms up remove said tape and haul a$$. You may hike a little slower but you are gooing to be spending way more time on the bike then off.. Just my suggestion but hey what do I know I will be in Chicago in sub 0 weather

What about those little baggies that you break to heat your hands. Small enough to fit in a shoe comfortably maybe. Plus in a hour or so they stop working.
