Yea different people have different perceptions of what is fast and what is not. I seem to perceive myself going faster when I can pedal well (maybe my xc roots!), so I just have to suck it for now (until I get more fit) and race my light-weight Nomad. At the end of the day, it only matters what you think of your performance - whether you think you lived up to your own potential. I felt a lot faster in practice Saturday on my Nomad ... the rock garden was just as fast on both bikes, only it was a lot smoother on the Demo 8 for the most part. The rear end of the Nomad kicks up a lot in rock gardens. I ought to get a spring for the rear and ditch the whole air thing.
Sarah,

Im fine, just got a terrible headache, back and neck pains. Although everyone seems to enjoy my crash- glad I could help put a smile on everyones face
turns out from what people told me "you were going way too fast" and my undeniable desire to stare at things put me in a bad situation.

I thought you did pretty well considering your crash- everything always feels different after that. A spring on the Nomad would be awsome! Thats what I would do with that frame.

Mudman, I didn't think you were going too fast. I think you just forgot to turn right!

Default Carnage, just absolute f--king carnage

More Exposure

Between Saturday and Sunday the conditions on the main rock garden changed significantly. The rocks seemed so much more exposed on Sunday.

The Performance

I wrecked pretty bad on my first Sunday practice run, doing a face plant and sustaining a pretty mean shiner on the right eye. The crash itself must have been a crowd pleaser.

On the way up that morning a guy was being carted off on a board. Talk of a broken neck on top of the hill put a little spook into the game so, of course, I sketch out and catch wreck in the rocks. With a not fully healed collar bone I am happy that things weren't worse.

In the queue, maybe three guys out from my race run I hear more sirens. Should have been listening to the iPod because that just reaffirmed a wierd feeling I had going up. I ended up running a very clean and conservative run--a 2:08 for a mid-pack finish. Disappointing, but I didn't sustain any further injuries.

That crash on Stair Steps set me back further than I had anticipated. I thought I was further along mentally, but not being as physically fit has been cause for more error, more injury, and now more mental dragging. Just unacceptable in a racing scenario, especially high risk ones.

The Carnage

My boy Mudman really took a beating. He looked all dazed and seemed to be just wandering around Southridge on Sunday and now I know why. Dude!!!

Haas (the guy with the raw finish Bottle Rocket upside down in the earlier phote sequence) got worked over in his race run after countless runs through the garden without incident. He was looking strong, but lost the line in his run, finding himself disoriented and in need of a new visor.

There are countless others that got tooled on those rocks. I hope they are doing well, healing up as best they can, and getting their heads straight for the next race. Oh, the humanity.

Get a Full Face Helmet

If this course is on the menu get a damn FF helmet...and some f--king pads if you don't have them. I just don't get how some of these fools don't understand the potential consequences of what they're doing. If I didn't have a FF helmet I would be getting my face reconstructed and I would certainly be blind in my right eye as a result of my crash. Oh, did I mention that would be the best case scenario. This sh!t is no joke. Hell, Mudman would probably be dead or eating through a straw. In skateboarding it might be "gay" to wear protective gear, but in this sport it would be NOT to. I vote we heckle people that don't run proper protective equipment.

Dear Downhillers,

After this weekends escapades, I beg you to please be kind and gentle to me. I have been hit, beaten, suplex'ed, roundhoused, bloodied and stripped of all my dignity. Please give me a few weeks to recover before the beatings continue again.

thanks,

the rock garden

where I crashed I already slowed down a lot. But in that case I'll go faster next time! my entrance speed on the rock garden felt perfect though and my bike was doing what it should. Just a rider error...
How many photos of me crashing do you have? We almost have enough to make a movie or something...

Default Hey

Now I can put a name to a face. I talked to you many times. I never knew you on str back then.
I was just amazed that you fit all the bikes in your car.
Let me know if you ever want to do some DH practice runs.
This was brutal Sunday for many. I got lucky no incidents. But with me not being a real strong peddler I cant get to hurt the speeds are mellow. I'm working on getting stronger. At least you are ok and everyone who was injured will recover.

great photos everybody!!! looks like things have been very well documented.

Like Brad (DownhillWebKook) said everyone needs to wear armor/protection. I was lucky to get out with nothing more than a little bit of pain. Those rocks would have definitely shreded my arms/shoulder, back, and legs to pieces if not for my armor. I even ordered a better pressure suite because that crash convinced me I needed more protection! Brad left with a sweet shiner! looked like he got into a bar fight.

There have also been a lot of problems with the local kids riding the 4X track with no padding or helmet on weekdays. Everyone protect yoself!

its called "target fixation"
it works on many aspects of things you do.
If your afraid to hit it and you starre at it, your going to hit it.. if you see that huge rock, look 6 inches either way of and chances are you will miss it.. in mudmans case, start turning right and go another 5 feet to the right and he may have been able to pull it off
