Default VQ training peeps?

Hey all you VQ training people out there, has your training turned into a big pile of stinky poo? I know mine has and we now have less than a month left for training, yikes..

So, hopefully the rain gods will take it easy on us for the next three weeks and allow us all to get some quality training rides in(not on indoor trainers). So best of luck to everyone out there training for this painful event (including you CC peeps too).

I was wondering if there is any other riders out there that can ride during the day on weekdays??? My wife hates for me to ride alone (especially in the mountains) and having someone to train with probably wouldn't be a bad thing. I live in Long Beach and can ride pretty much anytime between 10 am and 3 pm M - F. So if anyone out there has a similar schedule and wants to train during the week, please let me know. I have typically been riding El Moro, LCW and Santiago Oaks, but open to pretty much any trails open in OC or LA area. I am a middle of the pack rider, not breaking any land speed records, but can do the long haul when necessary.

So thats my story and I am sticking to it, hope to see some of ya out on the trails soon. Erik

From the recent RR's it seems that more people ride on weekdays than not

I'm stuck in an office M-F, but hopefully you'll get some hits.

I'm not training for VQ (but would gladly enter if a spot becomes available). I can ride a couple of times during the week. The OTB club night rides on Tuesdays and Thursdays are typically 8 - 12 miles, and I'll usually leave at 3 or so and turn them into 30+ milers, if you're interested. Most of them are in the Verdugos and San Gabs.

I thought they were looking for people to do CC. You holding out for the big one?

Default Finish by 3 pm

Thanks Kanga,

Usually I need to be finishing up my ride close to 3 pm or shortly after, need to be back in LB around 4 pm.

Hopefully a spot will open up for you, I imagine with all the rain some people may decide to pull out of the VQ or CC.

If my schedule changes I will send you a pm.. Erik

I have to go and ride Viper tomorrow morning, out in Santa Clarita. It's a long way for you, but I have to do it. Don't ask why... just have to (just did two laps tonight)

Did someone loose something on the trail? You know; if you ask us not to ask, you are really asking us to ask.

Hint: no photos for a RR....

Besides that, my arm only has to be twisted about 2 degrees of rotation before I'll give in to riding Viper again...

OP: I'm not training for anything but I do ride some during the week. Just PM me the day before and I'll let you know what I've got in mind for the next day.

I usually go out for 2-4hrs with a couple of longer rides thrown in on occasion. You can see by my log over at GL that I don't really burn up the trail but I do put in some miles.

There is a group doing Black Star to Sierra Peak on Friday and I may join them since my knee feels a little better. I'll just take it easy. Ride time is 9am and starts at the gate.

Thats a new one to me, never heard of it, but with a name like that it must be intense.. Unless your referring to the ride at Magic Mtn??

Thats pretty far no doubt, probably a good one for a weekend.. Hope you had a great ride.. Erik

Default Blackstar Friday

Gene, Thanks for the heads up on the Blackstar ride, I again will try to make this one.. My only glitch is getting the babysitter here early enough for me to make it by 9 am. Plus that traffic snarl through HB and Costa Mesa really makes it even harder to make that 9 am start. Worth a shot though.. Erik

Default Weekday rides?

Thanks Eric,

I will send you a pm and check to see what time you usually hit the trails. My 10am to 3pm is factoring in an hour drive time each way, plus 30 minutes here or there, just to be on the safe side. I guess I should have mentioned in my original post that you don't have to be training for anything, just ride during my basic time frame. The 2 to 4 hour duration sounds perfect.

Erik

It's "official" forest service name is Manzanita trail, but nobody has heard of that. It's named after the roller coaster at magic mountain, for good reason.

RR: Viper

I'm off to head over there now.

Nice RR Kanga, that looks like a really sweet single track. I wish it were a little closer to LB, but looks like its worth the drive. The video was great too. Congrats on finding your camera, you got pretty lucky on that one.. Later. E
