Default My First MTB Race This Saturday

It looks like I'll be doing my first ever XC/MTB race this Saturday in Fontucky at the Southridge Winter Series.

Is anyone here going to be racing and what class will you be in? I'll probably race beginner or sport, I'm not really sure yet. Either way, I'm really excited and I'm sure it will be a good time.

I've got an '02 Specialized Hardtail that I never rode much, but my very generous buddy (D. Diamond here on the forums) hooked me up with a Reba fork, Race Lite wheels, Juicy disk brakes and a new RaceXXXLite bar.

So with a more rideable bike, I've been pretty stoked on riding mountain for the past week and even more stoked when I found out there was a race this Saturday.

So, if anyone else is there, I'll be in an black/white Team Bearclaw kit on a Specialized hardtail. Rock on and and I'll look forward to meeting everyone there.

Anything to buy your friendship and ride the coattails of Team Bearclaw on their impending wave of mega-success.

I hear the team just paid a small fortune for a retro-classic special edition Team Bearclaw Winnebago and I want a piece of the hot babe action and open bar fiestas scheduled to take place, plus I heard Chet Bearclaw himself stops by occasionally and I'd like to catch a glimpse of him sometime.

I'll be there, I'll be doing the kids race.

Hey! I'll be doing the sport XC along with allison and denmother (and maybe willie). Look for us...we're the chicks wearing Path jerseys ...pretty hard to miss us!

Good for you...coming out to your first XC race...you'll enjoy all the pain!

check out the link to the Fontana thread...a lot of people say what they are racing when they RSVP.

Thanks... I'm considering racing sport rather than beginner. Althought I'm new to MTN., and will probably get my ass kicked, I read that the sport race is 13 miles, which will probably make the beginner race shorter, and thats kinda boring.

I assume you race on the road? What age group? Not sure hubby needs more competition

I'm 22, new to road racing and pretty new to cycling in general (I've been riding a little over a year now) I raced some cross last season, also. So although I'm a legitimate beginner, I'll probably still race sport, 1 lap seems kind of pointless.

Even if your husband was in the same age group, I think I should be the least of his worries, haha.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Nope! You're way younger than we are (and I'm fairly young!).

Look for those of us in Path jerseys!! I'll be on a bright green Canzo. Hubby rides a red Niner and will probably be in a red jersey (he doesn't have argyle yet).

Will be nice to meet another STR member.

I think you guys will do great! It hasn't rained here at all today, and has been sunny off and on and was warmer... course should be EPIC!

lol we'd be in the same class if you choose to do beginner.

that said, do sport!

if you haven't already checked the results from the last race, there were 5 guys in beginner, and 3 in sport in that age group.

I don't know that one lap is pointless. I had a blast doing one lap and would've been totally gassed and hatin' life if I had tried to 2. Next year I guess. I'll be in the beginner 35-44 tomorrow on a red FSR. Good luck in which ever class you choose!

I will be on the orangish/yellowish Epic. Took 2nd last race. Just have a great time and remember to breathe. lol Find a good pace and stick to it. A lot of beginners sprint like a bat out of you know what at the start and run out of juice to fast. Good luck.

I was able to keep from sprinting at the beginning but I think I may have given up a bit to much there. That first road climb though is a killer. I took a wrong turn last course so I'm hoping to cut a couple of minutes by staying on the right course this time.
