Default 08 Cal State, Southridge skeds posted

mbaction.com has posted a long list of 2008 race series schedules, including the Cal State, Southridge and a few new entries. Looks like lots of races to keep everyone busy next year.

Default No Castaic!

I'm really bummed that Castaic is not on the Cal St schedule. While not exactly a garden spot, though it's nicer than Fontucky, it has some of the most demanding climbs and a really fun swooping descent to the finish. Let's hope that second Elings race is a misprint.

Santa Barbara is beautiful and ussally has cool temps, but that course is more of a pump track than a mountain bike course.

Wow, no Castaic?!? The turnout for the last race was down by a third. I agree, that Castaic has some really tough climbs and is one of the toughest races out there. Fontana, though, is no cupcake either. That water tank climb, followed by the ridge climb is an absolute bast*rd of a climb! And let's not forget the loop on the backside! But in all fairness, the Fontana S/T kills whatever Castaic has to offer. The only real fun part at Castaic, was that bonzai doubletrack from the gate (not the greenbox) and admittedly the old D/H course was interesting.

Wasn't there a huge fire in the area that weekend? Certainly could have been a factor regarding attendance. The smoke that weekend was horrendous and they probably should have cancelled it anyways.

Default Change in California State Series

Per Team Big Bear, they are changing the May 4 date to June 1 so it does not conflict with the Idyllwild Spring Challenge.

CALIFORNIA STATE SERIES
Team Big Bear
#1 Mar 9...Bonelli Park, San Dimas
#2 Mar 29, 30...Southridge National, Fontana
#4 May 17, 18...Firestone, Los Olivos
#3 June 1 (was May 4) Big Bear Shoot Out, Big Bear Lake
#5 Jun 7...Elings Park, Santa Barbara
#6 Jul 27...Rim Nordic, Running Springs
#7 Sep 28...Elings Park, Santa Barbara
#8 Oct 12...Fall Classic (Series Final), Big Bear Lake
Best 6 of 8 individual....best 8 of 8 team
