Dino, thanks for your vote of confidence, but I've only raced DH twice. Yeah, I may have won both times, but I misclassed myself for the first of those two events in beginner, so that doesn't really count (I had never been to a DH race before, so I had no idea). And on the second one, not all of the fast guys in that class were there.

Job - No sweat, most of these events are on the weekends with Saturday for practice and Sunday for race. There are a few exceptions, but let's not worry about that.

No DH bike - Hmmm...guess what? I have 3 dh bikes. I can only ride one at a time. Besides, most of the local courses don't require a dh bike. Ah, you can get substantial discounts on some high end rigs if you'r on the team (think Yeti, Intense).

Skills - I can help there, too. I am pretty good at coaching people and I am sure I can work with you to develop your skills for gravity racing and give you some fluency with technical terrain at higher speeds. Because I am injured right now, this kind of work is very helpful to me to stimulate visualization.

If you can put in quality time, then there is hope.

Thanks.

Another suggestion is to outline specifically what the team benefits that are available, and whether or not it will happen. If I recall correctly, you mentioned in your intial post that you were just trying to make it happen with the shop. Did it happen?

Also keep in mind that most of the DH racers on this board are only casual racers - not that there's anything wrong with that; I currently fit into that catagory. You may get a better response if you post an offer on ridemonkey.

Again, I don't really know how bike shop sponsorships and teams usually work, but I think some people may interpret your proposal as more of a way to create people who are loyal to TBC. And currently, many people here are arlready loyal to the shop. I'm sorry that I don't know you personally, so please don't take this wrong, but perhaps if there was someone from that shop with more of a following he may have better success in the recruitment efforts. For example, ChumbaJason is well known and respected, so I think if he were still there (assuming he's not any longer), he may have had better results. Sorry for the babbling.

Downhillwebkook- While attending the NEXT Fontana race, have you considered approaching a few of the racers who "catch YOUR eye" on race day? Many are not STR members (YET ). Most are seeking some sort of sponsorship. Some are WICKEDLY good!

Questions:
1) Why haven't more STR people stepped-up? C'mon people!
2) DH only?.... 4X? SuperD?
3) Would you be willing to support "part-time" (local only) racers?
4) How 'bout supplying a bike to a talented young racer- on race day?

Just thinking out loud...

I think the problem is that you singled out only the expert and semi pro class people. Basically leaving everyone around those classes out. If your going to start a team I think including every class will be a better idea. you never know maybe one day that beginner rider will turn pro one day and will remember the team that took him in when nobody else did.

Just a thought.

DHWK, Uber mad props for asking people to join the team. I see the Dh scene growing in SoCal (whether or not people want to admit it), and I think there will be a "born again" DH movement if some sort of "governing body" can get a race schedule together like NORBA seasons of old.

If I knew I was going to have the time next year, I would throw my hat into the ring, but I don't want to say I'll do one thing when I know I can't fulfill it.

Hope to see you on the 2:12 soon!!!

Thanks for your complement Lee you rock Let me know if you want to go hit some local runs. I think most of the fun in DH is brushing up on the skills.
I went and did a photo shoot today. It was a blast. I can hardly walk right now but it went well. My shoulder held kinda.

I'm down to help in anyway I can. I really want to bring DH racing back on the map. It seems like the whole scene comes and goes but never get back to where it was in the Big bear days.

I have a file full of resumes from all over the world and many of the people I have interviewed. I will work with whom ever wants to site down and help me go through them. I feel like a school teacher correcting papers when I go through them. Then I have to narrow them down and research everything.

Chumba will have 4 levels of sponsorship.

When I go on tour I get to meet some of them that helps a lot.

For Chumba It also has to be an ambassador to the sport also.

Its easy to find rippers but they need some personable qualities too.

I have already developed some favorite personalities in this community . Now if they where only interested in racing or going fast. Ha Ha
I think just great people are the first step to setting up a team speed comes with practice.

Default Thanks everyone...

...for the feedback and suggestions.

I am truly open to all possibilities and I think I have made it pretty clear what the vibe is, hopefully. I feel like this side of the sport needs some help. My passion is for downhill mtb racing so this is where I wish to contribute. I see a similar passion in many forms within the STR community. So I thought this would be an excellent place to start. My aim is to look for people that understand what it means to be on a team and really strive for excellence as a rider and as a competitor while at the same time having a blast and contributing to our sport and the interests of our sponsors.

Here, I am trying to do some preemptive work before the season starts. I want to gauge the levels of interest and see what's out there. The Bike Co. has presented the opportunity to create this thing essentially from the ground up--designed around what we want it to be.

So, if you're interested, I would love it if you drop me a line. Let me know what you're thinking. Ask me some questions. You don't have to be an expert or semi-pro, but you should be a rider that wants to develop and move up. It's racing after all!!!

I think the people that are interested in serious DH racing (committing to travel, etc.) may already be on teams (The Path, Incycle).

There are probably quite a few people that want to test the waters at Fontana next season, but stepping up from never having raced before, to committing to NMBS races in Fontana, SB, AZ, etc. is a bit of a step for a lot of people.
