Default RR (sort of): 12 Hours of Temecula #3

It was great to get down to Temecula and see some familiar faces (1x1, surlygal, Ch4os), and meet some new ones as well (Pho'd UP, RideTheRAAM, Nam). Thanks for the excellent hang, and thanks for making my boy feel welcome as well.

We arrived on Friday, early enough in the afternoon so that no one was there. Kinda creepy setting up camp in the middle of nowhere... In any case, these pics aren't from race day as I was in the saddle most of that day. But, as always they show off Temecula in an artsy-fartsy way like you've seen me do before. Enjoy.

We did a pre-race loop on Friday. One word describes the course this time around: sandy. Or, maybe mushy. The trails were all heavily ridden, and no rain has fallen out there, so everything is just all tore up. Jason Ranoa (race organizer) built the best track he could given those circumstances. It felt like a lot of climbing. We still had a load of fun.

First Climb

On The (Fire) Road

Big Sky

Lake Road

Looking Down Burning Calves

Tired Boy

Good Light

Temecula Sunset

Wish I had some real racing pics for ya. Maybe next time.

Willie won 2nd place in the Junior Solo category, and took home the 2007 Champion jersey for having ridden 8 laps in the two races they had the category in (June and November). Also, Pua Sawicki approached me and asked if Willie would join her Team Mata keiki team (keiki is kid in Hawaiian). That was a real honor. I don't know what to make of it just yet, but I guess we'll see. She says first race for her kid team may be Old Pueblo in March of next year. Wowzer.

Lucky kid.

Man, those are some great shots. I stole three of them for my mtb scrapbook.

Mike - awesome photos!! You *really* make that place look amazing. I love the 2nd shot. Really shows some depth there and that section is difficult!

Congrats to both of you. That's amazing for Willie! If he is really interested in racing that would be quite an honor, I imagine.

Sweet pictures!

It's so awesome to hear stories of good kids doing good things (take that from a teacher who has to deal too much with bad kids doing bad things)!

Congrats to both of you~
