Default Fontana 11/17 cross country pre race report/ track condition

me and sharky pre rode the cross country course for fontana...
we tried to get pictures showing the course, and i know im not the best at explaining but i hope i can word this right to help people out...

ok so, after the big cement fireroad climb, you proceed behind the water tower up to near where they start the downhill races, then up a short hill...
after the hill, you make a left hand turn onto some single track... shorty after entering the singletrack, theres a pretty gnarly rutted downhill chute

this doesnt look that bad in pictures but the less experienced riders may need to walk this... its hard to tell in these pictures

shortly after the gnarly section... theres a nice right hander thats you can take wide and use the wall as a berm like this...

after this berm, there is a pretty gnar gnar section that has many lines through it... the fastest would be cut wide way before the berm, then cut inside before the berm and its hard packed all the way down...
now, if you dont take the way inside line, and hug the off camber side, you will end up in a andy, silty mess.... it really is sandier and siltier than it looks....i almost fell going down it and i've onlyfallen twice since i started riding last december...

*note that the higher line and the best line would be to the far right where those rocks are, then miss the patch of sand and silt at the bottom...*

although i almost fell... i had to try that line to the right, since i noticed it after i had gone down it the first time... so i started jogging up it... PainFreka knows how i jog and do flying remounts!

and i took the right...

there is a straight after the bad DH section and then it goes into a left turn... ok so remember what the sand is like from the dh cuz its like that in this turn... *here's my shaved legs!*

a few turns after the sandy left hander... there is a bridge... get lots of speed then shift into an easy gear.... this is also a pinch point, so try to be in the lead going down the hill so you can get to this section first, or, chances are you'll end up running up this

this next hill here, which is not far from the bridge is also very loose and deep sand...

here, you can pretty much see how sandy it is... this section is right after the picture before this... is may be faster to jump off and ride in the gully like i did yesterday...

after that section... theres an equal to the wall on the downhill course... except way sandy...again, if possible use the wash thing

after the cross country "wall", there is a deep sand section, probably one of the worse... there are rocks layed down.. try to use them if you can

this next climb is loose, however, there are tire tracks taht you cann follow which are the ways the pro's take anda re hard packed.

his next section we skipped but later found it was part of the course

we did not go up that way but here is what it looks like where it meets back up again around 1/2 mile later...

this is directly at the bottom straight across from the previous picture... this is the "forest" for naming reasons for the next picture

this would be the climb out of the forest type area

you make a 180 turn to the right then again to the left but the climb out continues....

heres the fun part... a singletrack-type climb

this is a nice singletrack descent that has braking bumps al the way down the turns...

heres a short rocky descent before the previous picture

more singletrack

yet more singletrack heaven

on the way back to\wards the sandy "wall"

still more wall

heres an example of using the gulleys

shaved legs and im wearing my race face and pose

this is all we got, and we arent too sure where it goes once you climb back up the back of the cement fire road
i guess we'll find on on race day?

See everyone out there for some fun racing!
hope this was a help for those who couldnt pre ride the course!

Also, me and sharky, and maybe kranked will be out at southridge doing downhill tomorrow, friday, around 3 or so if anyone would like to practice also

I don't think that climb is the one you're supposed to take.. we accidentally did that when we rode at the Demo Day's. But, it's the next climb down I think.

We'll find out Saturday

well if you dont take that climb you go straight and then make a hard left into the forest area... but the tire marks from the jenson guy taht was training and did at least 2 laps shoed it going up taht hill and down the other one

I've never raced it but redid it from how other's that have said it went. I usually go that way. That "forest" is near where you go by that cement building and abandoned truck/car? We left out the whole north section leading back to the start got dark quick!! Well plus my xc bike is in the hospital so was hitting it like a turtle on the dh bike...I LIKE TURTLES !! Just took the fireroad back up to the paved road so there's more to it. Maybe they switch it up a bit different races?? Jason would know...paging JfromLV.
I'll wish all your competitors GOOD LUCK and you'll all podium. Most of you get that from last season . Trust me it works in reverse! *crash*

Allison are you referring to the climb he mentioned we bypassed. It exits leading directly into the forest but you could be right. I remember B-rad took me that way once but since we didn't include it for lack of time could have been a different one ??

I dunno.. one of the photos looks like a climb that we started up once, but then turned back and took a different climb.

S'cool. They'll have it marked up for race day.

Here is a complete walkthrough of the course from GeoLadders. BFloFoxRider's pic's are better for current course conditions however.
