Ride to ride again

Default Girls in MUD

Debbie and I participated in the 2007 Muddy Buddy in San Dimas at Bonelli Park. For those of you who don’t know what the Muddy Buddy is (as crazy as some of you are…I’d be surprised if you didn’t know) it is a….race of sorts….that is about 6-7 miles long that incorporates both biking and running. One team member starts out biking, the other starts out running. You work your way toward the first of several “military obstacles” then switch disciplines and head to the next “military obstacle.” There are a total of four obstacles and then you reach the infamous mud pit (hence the name – Muddy Buddy)!

I did this race in 2004 with our dear friend, Christy Kirkwood. Christy was killed November 28th, 2006 while riding her bike on Santiago Canyon Road with Deb. Our team name – CK’s Mud Angels – we did it with Christy on our minds and in our hearts. She was the angel sitting our shoulders as we floated along the easy sections of the course, and she was also the wind beneath our wings when we would hit the tuff stuff!!

This was Debbie’s first time and she LOVED IT. She did a GREAT and her first words at the end….”It was not nearly as hard as I thought” and “we’re doing this again next year” !! Our time was 1 hour and 51 seconds and we have vowed to shave off at least 10 minutes next year!!

If you would like more information please visit the Muddy Buddy website at www.muddybuddy.com

Enjoy some of the photos here, or you can go to our photographer’s (Christy’s husband, Chris’) website at: http://web.mac.com/chriskirkwood/thekirkwoods/Hello.html and click on Muddy Buddy – to see all the photos of us crazy chicks!!!!!

Pretty cool!!! I have seen girls in mud but it was not for a bike / run race. All I know they had expensive soda pops and had a little person involved with wrestling the girls.

Every year I want to do this but it's hard to find someone as short as me to share a bike with. Looks like such a BLAST. I'm very jealous. Maybe next year..

We did the one in Camp Pendelton a while back. We placed very well, got 4th and had one of the best times I've ever had. My friend/boss was very fast and if he'd been paired up with someone just a little faster he would of been on the podium for sure. It was a lot of fun racing against the marines, and being a lot older and passing them on the bike. Congrats girls, good job!

BTW, that mud in Bonelli sure does stink!

Thats exactly why I didn't do it this year. Instead I did an adventure race at Bonelli a couple weeks before that. I did do the mudrun, though .
