Default Anyone into foreign sports?

Don't get me wrong. I like American sports but I guess I'm one of those guys that has to have sports revolving at all times so I have been watching foreign sports as well. Anyone watch Rugby? English League Soccer?? Crickett requires a boat load of but I think I have lost interest for it. The game is just too long.

I used to play rugby in collage and play D1 So Cal Men's League. I may play this year and it will for sure be my last year playing. Then I will bronze my boots and set them up on the mantle for retirement.

I will be watching World Rugby Cup Finals this weekend

I used to follow the Bundesliga (German soccer) pretty closely, but ever since they stopped showing it on cable, I haven't been following as closely.

Wasn't the Cup Finals last weekend? England versus South Africa. I watched it on pay preview.

My 10 year old loves Pop Warner Football and I want to sign him up for Rugby. Do you think it is a good idea for young kids?

10 years is still kinda young, but should be ok if you monitor closely (limited scruming or no live tackling for at least another year). My old club has a kids clinic and its touch rugby so its pretty chill. From the kids they then go into High school and my club has a high school under 18s club. These kids are pretty dang good and they are hitting. The coaches we have for those kids and high school teams are top notch. You can check out more info at http://www.backbayrfc.com/

You know I have been playing rugby for about 14 to 15 years and now my body is pretty beat up. I have had internal bleeding, fractured eye socket, two seperated shoulders and just everyday bumps and bruises. Last year when I played it was hard for me to get out of bed and I am only 34. The thing I got out of Rugby that overshodows everything else is the brotherhood and the never quit mindset. I would say rugby and wrestling has made me a metally stronger mountain biker and more importantly just on everyday life challenges. I wrestled when I was in grade school all the way into Junior collage and when I started playing rugby I was just so happy to do a sport where I wasn't watching my weight. I know if you did get him started in it right now he will properly be a stud once he gets into high school. Right now rugby is the fastest growing club sport in collage and I would not be surprised to see the NCAA make it a legit varsity sport and give out scholorships. I know right now Cal Berkley gives out scholorships but those guys are 10 time Div 1 collage champs. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. I will be playing my last games this year so check it out and I will tell you when the kids clinics are.

I too played rugby for many years. If you play for Back Bay, we may have met on the field. My club was the Oxy olde boys RFC. Rugby is a wonderful sport and I'd like to see it grow in the USA. In college I played football and rugby and always enjoyed rugby far more. It is a more athletic sport than football IMHO, and during any game most players will get a chance to advance with the ball and/or score. Not so in football. The frequency of injury is about the same, but the severity is less in rugby. Probably because there is no blocking allowed and no equipment worn.

But like you, life responsibilities grew and my tolerance for the injuries declined so I gave up competitive play at 37. Tried the social squad for a year, but found that if you're not going full speed, you're gonna get hurt.

If I can find good coaching, I'll definately encourage my boys to play.

EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga, UEFA Cup, etc.

I can't seem to get enough of it. I'll watch a soccer match broadcast in spanish before I'll watch an NFL game.

Before I got satellite TV (which I got because of this), I was driving 12 miles to the Saugus Cafe at 2 am to watch a World Cup match on a weeknight. DVR rules!

I have certain teams I enjoy watching, but I'm not beholden to any specific team. I just want to watch a well played match.

My dream european vacation would be to watch Arsenal @ Man U, Celtic vs. Rangers, PSV @ Ajax, Real Madrid @ Barcelona, Italy vs. France anywhere and if I had the guts, Olympiakos @ Galatasaray. Then stop over in SA to check out Boca Juniors/River Plate and top it off going to Rio to watch Brazil host Argentina on the way home.

I also coach a U19 boys team.
