I say fake. One AA battery is 1.5 volts.

True that maybe parallel but still.. AAs are not good for high amp draw applications like a lantern.

There are many battery packs that are made up of AA batteries in series/parallel. I know for a fact my Porter Cable cordless drill is one of them. That said, this video is bogus because they would have to connect the leads of the AA together somehow. I highly doubt they would have just stacked them all together in there like that.
What wire was he cutting? I didn't see any pieces of wire sticking out of any of the batteries when he dumped them out.

I'm no electrical guru or anything, but I do think it's possible to make a 6V lantern out of 32 AA batteries though. Wire 4 AAs in series to give you 6 volts then wire 8 packs of those in parallel. This gives you a 6v battery with something like 8-10 Ah. This is all in theory though. I'm not sure this is what they do really do. It's possible I do have the series/parallel thing reversed though.

You have the wiring correct. By doing that you can make all the AAs work as one 6 volt battery. I myself has never taken apart one of these lantern batteries. Seems more logical that a battery company whould use four larger cells with higher mAH and a higher amp draw with less internal resitance for a lantern battery. then again I can be wrong as well.

If you really want to save money on AA batteries....Go to "Ultimate Hobbies" on Katella and Tustin in Orange....they buy them in bulk(5000+ at a time) and package them themselves(ziplock baggies) sell them for about 1/2 cost of the retail stores and Costco type places...b/c sooooo many(almost all) of their customers have R/C remote control's that require sooooo many batteries...they still make a TON of money off them...and provide a cost savings service to customers...
