going my speed since 1975

brewing beer
Looking for the best way to start brewing my own beer. Any suggestions on where to start? Best books, research you have... etc. I figure I am going to be in this for the long haul so I don't want to go cheesy and waste of money. Kind of like buying a bike knowing you want the better one. Anyway, if anyone has experience with it let me know.
I can pretty much make anything out of metal so if I find the right techniques and figure what I need I will try and make most of the equipment.
