Either would be fine. Anything over 3 MPs is overkill for 95% of users.
I have the SD600 which works great. I got mine from B&H with no tax and free shipping. They have the SD1000 for a little over $200.
Keep looking - Online prices change daily.

how come the SD1000 is cheaper than the SD750? Isnt the SD1000 a better machine?

You might want to check bensbargains.net and look for coupons from Dell.

I'm camera shopping too Jose. Do these have Image Stabilization? That's the only thing I absolutely want.

I think the SD870 does not sure about the 850

Probably a loss leader thing, or maybe a refurbish.
One thing is for sure, you'll be happy with a Canon.

Here's the head to head from Canon:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...odelid10=14901

I price shop at Amazon.com, I've found there that when I order I'm not tricked into having to call in and get pitched for extras which drive the cost up.

I would do a bit more research before throwing down $$$.

What features are important to YOU?

What features are not important to YOU?

What is your budget?

Does size matter?

How much optical zoom do you want?

Would image stabilization be important to you?

How many megapixels do you require? If you always fill the frame, 3MP may be fine for many uses, but more MP's means you can crop and still have a lot of usable resolution.

What will you do with the pictures?

Print? How large?

How fusssy are you about image quality?

Are you willing to spend much time post processing your photos?

Are the video capabilities of a camera important to you?

Would a less than average flash be an issue for you?

Do you require the capability of an additional flash?

Are you somewhat tech-challenged when it comes to cameras?

Higher number (sd1000) isn't necessarily better than a lower number (sd850). A co-worker who was shopping for cameras figured this out. Sometimes it's because the lower number has something like image stabilization or some other really nice feature.

The higher numbers on those cameras doesn't necessarily mean it's a better camera. I do think you're on a good track with the Canon SD series.

If size is not of ultimate importance, they have some other new models that are also interesting.

Knowing your budget will really help narrow things down.

With sale price and $50 rebate the SD850 is currently around $332 at Circuity City dot com.

It looks like there are only *minor* differences... I'd go with the 850. It's cheaper, and aside from optical zoom and built-in memory, is basically the same camera.

Free shipping and no sales tax: $300.89

buydigdotcom

I've bought a DSLR and a Canon "L" lens from them with no problems. Ordered Sunday night/Monday morning and delivered Wednesday.

But if you want it now, you can likely order it online and pick it up twenty minutes later at CC.

I'm no camera expert but I'm currently looking for a replacement for my Canon SD450. It does well inside and for stationary items but for cycling shots it pretty much sucks.

I've been considering the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3K because it has a more powerful zoom than most and has a faster burst speed. It is bigger than the SD series but I think I can live with that.

Burst speed may be decent, but apparently shutter lag and image quality are an issue for some:

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonictz3/

Also, if you are not familiar with internet camera retailers, it's a good idea to check out their rating on resellerratingsdotcom

There are a LOT of scammers offering camera prices too good to be true. Very rare that a legitimate retailer will significantly beat the likes of bhphoto, canogacamera and buydig on price. It happens, but not regularly.
