Default Man held after sword attack on companion on Mount Baldy trail

(10-01) 11:09 PDT MOUNT BALDY VILLAGE, Calif. (AP) --
A sword-wielding hiker nearly severed the arm of another man during a confrontation on a mountain trail, authorities said Monday.
Wesley Brockway, 26, of Ontario was booked for investigation of assault with a deadly weapon a short time after the Sunday afternoon attack, said Detective Sgt. Dave Barker of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Brockway remained jailed Monday. There was no Brockway telephone listing in Ontario or surrounding areas.
Three men set off Sunday to meet a friend along the trail when an argument escalated and one of the hikers started swinging a baseball bat and another pulled out a large sword, investigators said.
"Evidently, he always goes hiking with a sword," Barker said Monday. "One guy got his arm almost severed."
The wounded man, whose name was withheld, was hospitalized at San Antonio Community Hospital. His condition Monday wasn't disclosed.
Detectives were heading back up the mountain Monday to find the sword, the sergeant said.
The attack occurred in the San Gabriel Mountains 40 miles northeast of Los Angeles along the border of Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.

I'm sorry, but I found this kind of funny.

Thanks for this find because I already forwarded it to a bunch of my friends and posted it on my site.

I'll have to find that Ninja Sword Holder accessory for my CamelBak in case I ride Mt. Baldy.

When I first saw the caption in the "San Francisco" paper I was thinking something else about two guys sword fighting on the trail.

Turns out just another 909 Meth case.

That story reminded me of a good Cops show in the I.E. I love watching Cops it makes me feel good about my life.

quick tip, never take a sword to a sword fight. Hand guns work much better.

BTW, who the hell hikes trails with a baseball bat??

    Reuters:
Sources say the two were last seen on the trail in a what appeared to be a very heated agument. An unidentified bystander witnessed the victim yelling, "tastes great!" and in respsonse Brockway would shout, "less filling!".

The question is...who hikes Baldy without a weapon!!
One experience that soured my love of hiking there I used to hike there several times a week. About 15 years back I was hiking down the stream trail below the Lower San Antonio ranger station and made it to the bottom at the dam so head back up and caught a glimpse of a guy up the trail I had encountered before jump off to the side and hide. The stream was running fast and high at the time so couldn't cross to safety and no exit at the bottom . For about 20 minutes we played cat and mouse where I was trying to find a way out and he kept hiding behind different rocks and bushes luckily he had a white shirt on so it stood out I could somewhat keep track where he was. Who knows what his intentions were but wasn't about to find out. Finally further down I found large enough rocks to get across the water and made my way to the rock quarry at the bottom and got a ride from a worker to my car. WHEW!!!
I knew what car he drove cause he had parked and "spied" on me in the past and gave his license to a Sheriff's detective who did tell me his name (not supposed to I know). Funny thing I left a note on the guys car later about how stalking was illegal and that I had given his plate to the police for my safety. A week later he had a new truck and again caught him parked and watching me so that was the end of my hiking that spot. For some reason I do feel safe on my bike up there maybe I feel I can outride any trouble??
Being a girl I feel it makes me more of a target too.
(normally I carry mace on hikes but wouldn't ya know I forgot it that one day)

That's really creepy just reading about it. Although it's not politically correct to speak of this publicly, I'd feel negligent if I didn't mention that a small pistol can weigh in at under a pound.

Above all, the best security is an awareness of one's surroundings, an aspect which you seem to have well covered.

    Party on.

    Default Scary lesson

You're telling me!!! To be honest while it was going on I kept my head and did what I had to do to get myself out of the situation but once I made it to the quarry telling the workers what was happening and fealt safe just started crying out of relief. It was a lesson for sure. All I had for a weapon was a big stick I picked up.

On a side note I was riding in the quarry (San Antonio Materials) last year when Mike the owner pulled up in his truck to talk to me. I thought he was getting ready to yell at me for riding there and he said "aren't you the girl we helped out that one day". After all these years he remembered me and actually said they would watch out for me whenever they saw me riding around. That was really cool of them and forever grateful !!
