Saw some jokers like that about six months ago up in the hills near here. Two guys, one was wearing a black trenchcoat and had a sword. The other had a video camera on a tripod. When I came back, there was a girl also dressed Matrix-style clothes. It all looked rather silly.

Lytle Creek / Mt Baldy area seems to have given the OC (Aliso Park) a run for its money in terms of pot farms. Maybe these two yahoos with the sword are looking for their "direct from the grower" discount.

Not to give them a bad rap but by the dam on the way up to Baldy this morning a ton of Sheriff's and detectives were looking off the side of a dirt trail a short ways from the road. This is just below a trail I regularly ride and have found several animals dumped in that area so I'm guessing it was a body left. Very Sad.
Not kidding I've seen headless poultry, pets, a goat and an entire cow dumped there over the years and have busted a few dumping trash. The turnout is just an easy spot to stop and do so. My prayers to the family if this is the case of a death but that's what it appears to be. BTW this is the same dam where the rock quarry is where the workers saved my butt that day. Edit: It was a death.

There are a ton of similar stories/news articles to body dumps and other crazy stuff around San Juan also..
Crazy that people think if they go anywhere that isn't on a busy highway they can just dump stuff...

Yeah wacky-ness in the wilderness. Back in my mosquito killing Vector Control days one of the crews found human remains up in the canyon too.
Sharky, that's some scary stuff. I hope you're carrying pepper spray when you're out in the wilderness alone. I'm not a big gun advocate, but hearing your story about stalkers and crazy 'Deliverance' dudes running around up there is very unsettling. Carl |

My sister and I took a tear gas training class for citizens so we could legally carry mace/pepper spray but that was back in '91 maybe the laws have changed since but shortly after that incident I decided to stop hiking alone there for sure and do try to be safe about things. Though the trails I ride above my house are pretty empty except for a few hikers.
Edit: My reason going up there this morning I'm leaving food for a dumped dog by the ranger station I can't catch. That upsets me more than anything the number of live animals dumped off the heartless jerks!! ![]() Edit: The lower S.A. ranger station adopted the dog as a station pet.

I almost positive you can buy pepper spray now with out certification. I bought some for my sister and mom a few years ago. Bummer that you had to stop your solo hikes up on Baldy but totally not worth it after hearing your story. C |

Not funny. I've seen numerous people up there with machetes... they weren't cutting trail with the boy scouts and they didn't appear friendly... Always kinda creeps me out.
The question is why would you confront someone with a weapon in the wilderness? |

POMONA, Calif. — An Ontario man has been sentenced to life in prison for attacking a Mount Baldy hiker with a Samurai sword and nearly severing his arm.
Wesley Brockway got life with the chance of parole Wednesday from a Pomona judge. The 27-year-old was convicted last month of attempted murder and other crimes for the attack in September 2007 in the San Gabriel Mountains. His older brother, Eric, was earlier convicted of misdemeanor battery and served six months. Authorities say they attacked an acquaintance, David Gregory, with a sword and pepper spray because he painted over graffiti the brothers left on a trail. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,438646,00.html
