Default IPA Drinkers...any thoughts?

Interesting discussion getting started at my second favorite place to kill work productivity...

http://beeradvocate.com/forum/read/1087113#1087866

...any thoughts from the beer drinking contingent around here? Just how many IBU's can you really taste?

(For those that might not know, IBU's are International Bittering Units, which theoretically direactly relate to the bitterness of a beer)

Tim, let's keep the beer geeking locked up in the cage where it belongs. We can't let others know about our preciousssssss.

I'd say tasting IBUs it is all a matter of opinion, and in order to form that opinion, I will need to taste every IPA in the country. How soon can you have them all here?

Thumbs up Great thread

IPA...hmm where to start? To me (and many others), a West Coast IPA is much hoppier than say a Midwest IPA or an English IPA. I do love the hops, but like a balanced beer more. Anyone can throw a few pounds of hops into the kettle and say...."hey...I made a hoppy IPA". But to get it balanced.....mmmm...that's something special. Can you have too many hops? That's a question we all answer independently. But here are just some of the IPA and other hoppy beers I enjoy;
*Stone IPA
*Stone Ruination...mmmm (now available in 12oz bottles)
*Arrogant Bastard, Oaked Arrogant Bastard (milder)...and of course Double Bastard for those cold days when you need to be warmed up from the inside out
*Santa Cruz Blur (a bike AND a beer...coincidence?) 87IBU... i think http://bp2.blogger.com/_eFhHSU9D-cE/.../s320/blur.jpg
*Racer 5 and Racer X
*Alesmith (most of them)
*Green Flash X
*Hop Rod Rye
*Fullers ESB...classic English Ale
*Lagunitas (many...but really like Lucky 13...beware of the fuzzy eyeball)

and many, many more. I have had a couple that were over 100IBU, but can't recall which ones off hand.....PM if you NEED to know

to try some.....head over to Beachwood BBQ in Seal Beach for MANY tasty brews. Here's what's on tap.. http://beachwoodbbq.com/beerwine/beer.html

There should be a fund raising beer tasting on 9/23...PM for details
Enjoy!

btw.....who's going to the Stone 11th Anniversary on Saturday? I'll be at the AM session

Oggies in Orange regularly has something called "Hop Juice". It's HUGE!!!! Well, balanced condsidering the amount of bittering (Chinook I think) hops. Finish is sorta bitter-sweet (Northern brewer maybe).

Here I am standing next to my weekly supply of my favorite double-IPA...Stone Brewing Ruination.

I toured Stone Brewery's new facility last week. If anyone wants a "Ride Report" of that let me know.

Yeah, wasn't that one just amazing?!?

Somone mentioned Oggi's Hop Juice - that's always been one of those beers that even if I'm at Stone or Pizza Port I won't feel blasphemous ordering before one of theirs!
Anybody had the Lagunitas HopStoopid? They had some at the Mammoth beer festival...and so we set up shop next to the Lagunitas tent and had as much as they'd give us!

- anybody feel like a ride/beer tasting is in order, maybe towards the end of the month?

Those with better developed palates drink and appreciate both fine beers and fine wines plus more in the appropriate situation in life...

Anytime...if I'm not working. A good local one is San Clemente Singletracks and then Pizza Port.

Daley Ranch and then Stone would be good once it gets a cooler and maybe greener down there..after rain.

That just brought a tear to my eye. Ruination is the best.

mmm I had a STONE RUINTATION IPA the other day. That was one damn good beer. I love the STONE IPA but having the RUINTATION was a treat.

Here in Arizona Dog Fish Head is real popular. Anyone here try the 120 min. I believe its a 11 or 12 percent brew.

I've only had the 90min which is 9%. Thats a good beer!!

Wait what I'm in college, back to Keystone!!!!
