ok, so other people mentioned family - same here, two kids, so hanging with them, coaching them in soccer, hockey, football, baseball, etc.

other than that, it's
1. hockey (grew up in Canada and still love playing - biking has definitely helped the legs
2. beer
3. home theater

I know it's NOWHERE NEAR THE SAME THING, but since I started sparring at my Taekwondo class, I have a new appreciation for MMA. I was always a big UFC/Pride/K2 fan before I got into Taekwondo, but now that I'm sparring, I see more strategy and stuff like that than I did before. And I also have a new found respect for the conditioning that fighting takes. I mean, I have really good cardio from biking, but when we do 3 minute free-sparring matches, I'm friggin exhausted afterwards.

Snowboarding has been a huge part of my life, started when I was 16- 1986 for you youngins- grew up in the great state of Minnesota where winter rules so hockey was a big one too......no one could ever figure a polynesian hockey player, even when I checked them over the boards into their own penalty box, silly me

So, what's your other passion/hobby?? I will lay out only 1 rule. It has to be something other than family, otherwise we'd all be saying that. Feel free to list multiple.

For me it would have to be Taekwondo (ATA-Songahm style).

The wife and I enrolled our 2 boys in it and I my schedule allowed me to be able to take them. I sat watching for 3 weeks and decided I "might as well join them." I wasn't really interested in it before, but figured I may as well do something besides sitting there watching. Plus, I figured it would be a cool father/son experience (no I'm not violating my own rule--read on).

Well, I fell in love with it and can't believe I waited so long to start. I've advanced 4 belt levels and have started to enter tournaments. I placed 1st in forms and 2nd in sparring at my first tournament--which was very unexpected.

I go 3-4 times a week and I should earn my Black Belt sometime around Spring '09. I love it so much, I also joined the Leadership Program which starts you in training to become an instructor.

So, let's hear yours.

Back before kids I would surf, play basketball, ride dirt bikes etc……… Now that I have three boys (10 and under) biking is my only “solo passion” I mean I ride with my kids but mountain biking allows me with some alone time……….just for dad.

M-Bikes will always be #1 for me. I love everything about it. Building up bikes and tinkering with them, being outdoors, nature, hanging with friends, challenge of hard climbs and descents….shall I go on??

Other interests for me (and family besides bikes):

Sports. This is #1 in my house. I am involved in my kids sports and also love watching Baseball, Football and Basketball. I am really passionate about getting kids outside and moving around. We live in one of the best climates in the world and it really bothers me to see kids inside playing video games etc.. (insert pet peeve)

Camping / Dirt bikes. Love going out to the So Cal desert in the Fall and Winter

My other passions not in any order
1. Surfing, I used to short board but after gaining some weight I could not make the boards thick enough I started longboarding.
2. Xbox 360, when Halo 3 comes out I am actually taking a day off and playing all day
3. Going to concerts, I enjoy going to rockabilly and punk shows.
4. Baseball, GO SOX!!
5. Rugby, I have played many years and this will be my last year of playing this year for my mens team. You don't see too many Mexicans playing rugby.
6. Star Wars, I am huge Star Wars fan in fact I have a Star Wars tattoo and I collect vintage Star Wars Toys. I don't buy too much Star Wars anymore due to the fact my new love (mountain biking) has taken that money.

This is my sin sei from Kobra kai Dojo. He was instructing me to sweep the leg against that wuss Daniel.

The other picture was of my sin sei getting upset at me after the match that I lost in the All Valley Karate Championships

Teaching and Computer Security are my other passions. I went to grad school for the soul purpose of being a college instructor. I started teaching even before I finished grad school because I couldn’t wait.

I teach computer security classes at the Bachelors and Masters level. I developed the Network Security Bachelors program at the college I teach for and I facilitate the bulk of the NS classes. I spend a good deal of time doing research on computer security for both my classes and my own curiosity.

I have been into computer security for almost as long as I have been in IT which is over 10 years. I had my own consulting business for a few years and did security and corporate training. I come from a family of teachers so teaching seems like a natural path. I only teach part-time so my passion doesn’t become a “job” it also provides additional “bike income.” I like what I do and I like seeing my students grow and succeed.

I do wish I was paid for the stuff I do outside of the classroom. I would say between my full-time day job, my part-time teaching job, and all the class prep work and grading papers my work week is about 80 hours long. But teaching is my passion so I really don't keep track.

Photography...when I'm somewhere that inspires me. This shot was from labor day weekend backpacking near mt. Whitney. The milky way is the blurry thing left of the pine tree. I lit up the trees with a headlamp - worked out well.

Other passions: Road biking (spandex and all!), snowboarding, I'm also now getting into tele-skiing to switch it up and learn something new, rockclimbing (sport, not trad), backpacking, snorkeling/scuba diving (when i can). Volleyball, surfing or body surfing in the ocean. And I'd say I have a refined taste for music and see the occasional show. And I don't do it often, but I like fishing too (pike photo)...

I don't surf as often as I'd like but I still consider it a passion. I used to compete and made the finals of a contest at Lowers (15 years ago) with Slater, Machado and Beschen (Shane). I also collect old skateboards (a passion growing up) and I have a Dale Velzy balsa as part of a surfboard collection that I hope to buld up.

 • Escalades

 • Raised trucks
 • Bluetooth
 • Blackberries
 • Lowered trucks
 • Coffee can mufflers
 • Sideways hats
 • Hynotq
 • Tapout stickers
 • The attitude of entitlement
That should be enough for now. Oh, and fishing, too!
