When I first started mtb'ing the group I was with had a tendency to take way to many breaks and I kept begging them to continue on. They asked "What are you, some kind of Pain Freak?". A few months later I joined a very big group doing an epic ride and somebody there called me the same thing. Then before I knew it everyone was reffering to me as Pain Freak, so I started using it as my alias. And no, there is no other meaning to it, I don't honestly like pain, but I do enjoy a very hard workout.

Two weeks before I do my 7th double century, is it to early to start crying?

Doh! Sorry, 7th all time for me. I did 6 year after last (2005).

But a few of the guys I ride with do all of the doubles posted on the California Triple Crown website and that is like 15 doubles in a year.

Did I just highjack another thread? Sorry!

Guys at work (years ago) when I worked construction jobs nicknamed me "boboso". They said, it means your name (Bob) and Bear (Oso) as you are like a bear with us. I then said, "so it does not mean "drooling idiot" like it does in Spanish?" They were a bit put off as they asked "you speak spanish?" I said "just enough."

It has become a term of endearment however for me and the guys, some of which still work at the same location. I have moved on to management, but my nickname will stick. I am kinda proud of it...

G.R.P. are my initials. My mom would occassionally say them phonetically... Gurp. My birthday is on the thirteenth and I think it makes me sound hard to put that number on the end of my name. :-) So, gurp13 to honor my mother who passed in 1998.

Pacman is short for Pacifier Man--which my buds nicknamed me because when I first got into MTB'ing, I would whine about the climbs--cuz I was fat and out of shape. One of my buddies brought me a pacifier one day and said that it was for me to suck on during the climbs so I wouldn't whine. The Pacman name came about 10 seconds later.

I took the pacifier and clipped it onto my CamelBak--where it is still attached to this day, 3 years later.

Funny sidenote--now that I've lost almost 50 lbs, I'm the best/fastest climber in my crew and now I "whine" when I don't get enough climbing in. I made a (small by most people's standards) goal to climb 100,000 verticle feet this year. I need 8,333' a month and am already at 30,000 so far. Not too bad for a fat boy with 3 kids.

It's got nothing to do with Wu-Tang. Because I'm just not a very good rider (hence my current status on the disabled list), I dubbed myself OverDaBars on SoCalMTB.com several years ago, back when that site was still a nice little community. Folks started shortening it to ODB and it stuck.

But, George... how do you pronounce that???

shudder... Because I am sheet skeered of steep hills and don't wanna fall down (as I inevitably do).

Not really.

shudder came from a photo forum site I spent a lot of time on over the past five years (DPReview)-- there were all flavors of Michael there and I wanted to stand out, so I went with shutter, but no no no -- that was already taken (of course) so I got clever and went with shudder. And now I am known as shudder-from-the-internet over there (too long and irrelevant a story to explain here).

But, for here, the first explanation makes the most sense.

Oh, and I hate climbing. O_o

But it's the only way to get up there so that I can take my pics!
