Default One just for the Ladies.

Transition Bike Co. will be making a female specific 6" freeride frame. No details yet. It will be called SIREN. Take a look.

I'm fairly new to riding and not too familiar with the different components yet. Are female specific bikes hard to come by? I didn't even look for one when I bought mine.

I do like the name and the red tires, though

i noticed that the bike companies are seeing a niche market that they can cater to as more and more women get involved w/ this activity. It's great that they are finally designing bikes that are suited for the female physiology. I would expect to see more and more since the bigger companies e.g. specialized trek etc have embraced the women specific design

Who carries Transition Bikes? Just currious. I'm always interested in trying different bikes.

May not be useful, but I think Beyond Bikes does in San Diego. Don't mail order; go to the shop and deal with Francesca (she's there one or two Sat's a month). Tell her I sent you

It definitely looks like a sweet bike. Justin and I were reading about it yesterday. The only thing that bugged was for a DH/FR bike they only provided 6" of travel! Otherwise it seemed really cool and got some good reviews. They also said that they'll have a few different sticker kits so the frame can kinda be customized.

Adrenaline in Orange is a Transition dealer, and an STR supporter.

Looks beefy! It's cool to see WS DH/FR and longer travel options for the ladies
Also consider a small Intense 6.6 very low standover and overall great geo, they look awesome.
HA is a bit steep IMO but it's nothing a longer travel fork wont' fix.

Was considering this for the wife but decided to start her off with something on the XC side of things.
WS Turner Flux aka Jane [this is not her bike.. but it's being built ]

So someone tell me what the main differences are in a "female specific" bike. I know they say the bikes are "created with female physiology in mind" but that really makes no sense to me. First of all, everybody, regardless of gender, is a little different. Some are short, some are tall, some have long legs and short torsos (me), and others have short legs and long torsos. So how is female geometry different from male? I can see maybe having shorter bars due to narrower (is narrower a word?) shoulders, but other than that I don't understand. Seems like a lot of women's specific bikes are just men's bikes with some flowery pink sh*t thrown on somewhere.

Btw, Jenson had a "women's specific" bike on display in their "ladies section" (which is a 4x4 corner of the Corona store) and it had the sh*ttiest components on there and was totally cheesy. One women's bike on display and it's a piece of crap--- how insulting!
Do they think we ladies don't know or care about good components?

Thanks for starting the topic Geronimo!

Most bike sizes get you in the ballpark based on your height.

Women generally have shorter torsos and longer legs which usually results in a long stretch from the saddle to the bars if they buy a "men's" bike.

Women Specific Designs generally have a shorter top tube to get the size more in the ballpark for most women.

Despite all the hype, you should always ride before you buy, right?

I own a MENS Pink Painted bike I love it - even if it is painted Pink.....We changed a few things (stem, bars, etc) and it fits me great! It's the most comfortable bike I’ve ever owned.

Body type is what matters...Customizing makes your bike fit.

Question for Men or Women? Have you ever walked in to a bike shop hopped on a bike and felt it fit you perfect? Most likely not (at least once you have real miles under your belt and you know what comfortable really means).

Personally, I appreciate that the industry is at least trying to recognize that women ride bike too! Hopefully sooner than later marketers realize it does not need to be Pink to sell to a woman

Bike shop no, but the Medium Yeti 575 I demoed at Snow Summit last Sunday was pretty darn close. That was the first time I got on a "new" bike and was able to ride it for hours without changing anything.

The only women I know that have bought "female" specific bikes did so because they were very short (5'5" or less) and could not find a non-gender specific bike that was small enough. Not too many manufacturers make XS frames. It's even worse if you are short and want a small DH bike.

I had a hard time finding a decent bike in my size because on a rare good day I'm barely 5'! My first bike which most of you have seen was a Giant hardtail that I bought because I wasn't sure I'd stick to mountain biking. It's was one step up from a kids bike in size but 5 years later there I was still riding it every week! I came into mountain biking on my own, knowing nothing, no boy to influence me or help me out. Yes, I pretty much woke up one day and said this is the day I'm going to start mountain biking! LOL

If I had a dual income I might have gone high end but it's just me so I did what I could and I am pretty happy with my Giant Trance WSD (DOUBLE X-SMALL) but I do notice that most WSD designs don't have the higher end components. Why I don't know?! I guess it's a simple case of supply and demand. I'm pretty happy that at least I can reach the bars! Call me simple I just want to ride.

NOT at all. I totally agree just wish I had more money to get the good stuff!

Plus I'll admit to being a total girl and not knowing jack about certain things till they are pointed out to me.

Trance is a decent bike, though, isn't it? I'm assume it's an upgrade from the HT?? I don't know that much about Giant except that Nam rides one

For me, I'm totally opposite of most females. I've got short legs and a really long torso and arms, so I fit fine on regular bikes. Also 5'9.

I did have a bit of trouble trying to get my Stumpjumper to fit me really well. I ended up with a 70mm stem and it felt better, but never really great. The Enduro I ride now is the same size (L, which I think was too big on the Stumpy), but since it's all-mountain the 50mm stem on it rocks. I've also got a M 1x1, M Dos Niner, and now a M Demo 7.

All that being said... (My point, and I do have one...) I still like pink also Light blue and flowers, on the other hand..
