Is there any shows on say, discovery or a local channel perhaps that covers stuff like the magazines do?
- bike reviews - latest news in the biking world - parts Similar to Horsepower TV for cars... but dedicated to biking road/mountain/uni etc.. Just curious because the only dang thing I saw was the Tour de France stages on discovery (and thats probably just because they sponsor #2 and #3 riders (now #1 and #2 because of numbnuts being taken out for blood dopeing)... ??

I've never understood why Fuel runs Surf, Wake, Skate, and especially MX & BMX, but hasn't figured out that Mtb can make for good TV too. What gives? Why not at least run some extreme downhill/freeride stuff? Or use the same formula they do with surf films, and run edited versions of "Roam," etc. in installments?
Who we gotta talk to about this?

XC racing would be expensive to make watchable. Making compelling TV of the TDF requires all those moto cams & helicopters. Gravity racing can be covered the way that ski racing is, but ski racing isn't much less marginal than MTB anymore. I suppose new-school slopestyle could lead a return to the X games (remember dual slalom on snow at Winter X? I think there was a shark jump at the bottom of the course...)
With TV ratings sliding and internet usage rising, the future of MTB on video is kind of up to us to create and post ourselves. With all the content online, including STR, I don't think we're lacking for MTB infotainment. Between the homemade stuff, little projects like STUND & Dropin, and Velonews (the Chris Horner TDF interviews are way more compelling than the re-hashed material that Versus is serving), there's lots of couch-potato satisfaction out there. |

Anybody can do the public access channel on cable, but only cable. I know that you have to go take a set of Time Warner/Cox editing classes, basically the class is just to show you how to use the audio/video equipment. I actually thought about taking this class just because a friend of mine and myself thought about doing a cable access.

i caught this mountain biking segment on the weather channel when they were covering Moab, Utah... it was pretty cool as they followed an xc rider and his favorite trails and then a DH racer chick!

It would be a nice 1/2 hour to hour long show with them covering the bikeing scene race results, highlights of races, maybe a segment on accidents and treatment/ safety gear, equipment reviews toward the end and then a write in letters answering time... sponsors could chime in at the end in the closeing credits just like they do any other show...
There seems to be a big bike following but sadly it's mostly Tour De France kinda stuff and then all racing.. never anything past that. Combine MTB, BMX, Road all in one show... one segment for each and then the last one on quick reviews and saftey gear of the week or something.. <--- needs to propose the show to someone at WB maybe.
