A friend of mine recently became a rep for the Can-Am Spyder. Yesterday, he invited me out for a cruise on the Spyders. I broke out my old Arai road helmet that matched my old CBR that's long gone (gotta love the pink). We started at his place in Orange, then went up to Redondo Beach, and later to Marina Del Rey to a place called Killer Shrimp.
As you can see, the Spyder is a three-wheeled vehicle. It does not require a motorcycle driver's license, but it's legal in the carpool lanes - go figure. It's powered by a V-Twin 998cc engine that produces 106 horsepower. It was a blast! It comfortably cruises at high speeds, and easily and quickly accelerates to extremely high speeds, and suprisingly, it's very stable. So stable, in fact, that you don't feel that you're going that fast until you look at the speedo. Freeway interchanges are also easily railed at speed. And everywhere we stopped, and even on the freeway, we got tons of looks and questions. They sell for about $15k, and full production models will be available in September. BRP Can-Am Spyder Roadster

So no Class M license required for that? Is it an automatic transmission vehicle?
I am not sure how that thing would be "better" than a regular motorcycle, since it looks less maneuverable (turning) and is just as likely to get you turned into ground beef. ![]() |
