GO BLACKS!
seriously- anyone ever been to NZ? I was there a few years ago and I've never seen a country get behind a team. Heck, a poster was hung off the side of one of the taller buildings in downtown Aukland. the poster had to be at least 15-20 storeis tall. heck, I'll admit it, I've got a Blacks jersey ![]()

I have a friend that is a stuartess for United (also NewZealand Air) that can get me there for free on a budy pass. I'm still trying to convince my wife that I'll come home and not find myself a nice wahine in the woods, and bike till i die.

I hate it because it pumps me up and makes me what to do things that my body can't do anymore!
I was in NZ for one week when I was playing rugby in collage. I was part of a Pac-10 all star type squad and went out their for a tour. I was in Wellington, anyways at the time we went their we were all pretty cocky young collage rugby players, at the time we had some of the best collage rugby players in the US (not me ) on that touring squad and we thought we were pretty good. We end up playing a local high school (actually one of the better rugby schools) and we got thumped hard! Actually the score was very embarassing .When you turn on the TV out their all that is on is rugby, rugby in that area is like baseball or American football here. The people live and breath it. They had one guy who was a huge star playing for the All Blacks named Lomu and the Dallas Cowboys offered him a contract to play for Dallas, but he turned it down because he was making more money in NZ. This Lomu dude would run over people. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="<A href="http://www.youtube.com/v/KYt1TOSni4E"></param><param">http://www.youtube.com/v/KYt1TOSni4E"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/KYt1TOSni4E" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> Sorry I don't know how to put the youtube stuff on here but just click on the link you won't regret it! For your viewing pleasure! |

Rugby is amazing to watch, the ebb and flow of the game are constant, the hits are redicouls, and the atmosphere is mezmorizing. Only problem is the lack of pads mean more physical damage to the players, which in turn mean shorter careers. Last I heard Lomu was actually on the B squad.
For those who aren't familiar here a sports segment of the best try's (aka: touchdowns) of 2006

Dude is old now, and he had kidney failuare and was about to die but ended up getting a transplant, so do be back playing rugby is amazing. Teams properly keep him on because he is a guy that the team could use to put people in the stands. They properly get more attendance for the B games compared to the A games.
Oh BTW the young guy hosting that television show FSW Rugby is named Max Brietos I played against him, he is with Santa Monica Rugby club. I think he is a old boy now like me. Doesen't play as much. |
