I agree w/ some of what you are saying but Mathews Jr contract was b/c CBA not a salary cap problem.....thats why there were MANY players that got paid toooooo much this off season..there was an abundnece of TV money released to all the teams

06 StL over Wild Card $89 million
05 ChiSox over Wild Card $75 million
04 BoSox Wild Card $127 million
03 Marlins Wild Card $48 million
02 ANGELS Wild Card $61 million
01 D'Backs $85 million

There are still the HAVE nots like the Royals, D'Rays, Rockies,Nationals....

sweet...yankees top 5 players alone salary is greater than ~1/2 of all the teams entire salary!!! highest paid player almost makes as much as entire d-rays team (although once they sign josh hamilton that'll change)
