Okay, this is pretty heavy. Check out frame 5... that is "dry reef" (no water covering the reef) in the trough.

Dog gone it! I looked over and over but couldn't see it!
It was the North Shore sequence right, Art? I think surfing is the most beautiful sport on earth! I see Laird Hamilton in Malibu sometimes. I'm in awe of him! One time I told him he makes surfing so beautiful! |

Laird is a surfing ikon, like Kelly Slater... one of a kind and super-human.

Yes and no. Laird is one of the best tow and big wave surfers to ever live. Some of the things he does on a tow board are unmatched. As for regular paddle surfing in anything smaller than double overhead, I'd say he isn't all that great. He's got a really awkward style, doesn't flow well. In knee high to double overhead waves, I would say he's not even in the top 500 surfers in the world, and never has been. Plus, popularizing Stand Up Paddling has plagued regular surfers around the world. He did it not to spread the great stoke of surfing, he did it so he could cash in a little more on sponsorship and commercials. Things in the tow world were drying up and many were catching him, needed something else to keep the money coming in. I'm not a fan of Laird, he's not a god, and he definately has no soul when it comes to surfing. As for the Western Ozzie above, that guys got tons of soul. It oozes out of him. |
