I'm an un-official ex-mormon and have been doing some research on church history and such lately, if you haven't had your questions answered shoot me a PM.

The Southpark cartoon is the most informative, truthful, and politically incorrect thing about this thread and yet you dont delete that? I posted an informative article of someone who was a past member of the mormon church and gave a first hand account of the ways of the church and an explanation of its practices and my post gets deleted? Interesting....

Bflo I hope your questions get answered and someone gives you accurate answers to your questions in regards to the mormon church. Sorry if some folks got offended, but sometimes clarity makes some people uncomfortable.

The best thing about the South Park episode is that they don't do anything but tell the truth.

Funny as it is, it's the truth....

If the Mormon younglings would just ride a different style of bike they might gain more friends at the door knock, like

"knock knock" hi says the answer to the knock the youngling replies so repetitive do you know a higher power, the answer to the knock replies, ooh nice bikes you have! The young knocker says, would you like to go fir a dh ride, than there might be an eventual sell but currently the younglings are so likely to just pester.

I'd rather be riding my mountain bike thinking about GOD than being in church and thinking about my mountain bike, has got to be the signature Sunday ride theme!!!

What's your point? are you saying this book is about the beliefs of the Mormon church or just making a casual comment? If the former, you're an uninformed religious bigot.

^^^ that's a little harsh pulling the bigot trigger that fast...if you're right, then 100's of critics must of been fooled, too. krakauer is an excellent writer who researches his subjects thoroughly.

and i've never known southpark to lie either.

Nope, I'm Filipino and have had many good friends who are Mormon. Even attended morning semenaries before classes during highschool, dances, and other functions. Their beliefs never been an issue with me, just different. A good buddy of mine actually did a mission to the Philippines. To my knowledge, they don't discriminate. Im sure you know verybody is different, even the good ones.

"What's your point? are you saying this book is about the beliefs of the Mormon church or just making a casual comment? If the former, you're an uninformed religious bigot."

Your statement is confusing. Let me get this straight, so, if I was just making a casual comment, that would be, OK? i.e. I enjoyed the book but don't believe it's true. But if I believe that Under the Banner of Heaven is a fairly accurate depiction of the Mormon faith, then I'm an "uninformed religious bigot"?

OK, first of all, you need to brush up on the definition of bigot (please see below) Now that you know what that word means, understand that I don't belong to, nor identify with any religion. Therefore I can't be an "uninformed religious bigot" because I'm not defending any particular religious perspective. I might be uninformed or a bigot, and I'm neither of those, but I'm certainly not "an uninformed, religious bigot".

If anything, you sound like the uninformed religious bigot... bigot.

I love any good discussion (regardless of the topic and what I think about it) but this one's got it's time and place and it sure as hell isn't a public mountain bike site.

I vote (i know this isn't a democracy) for a no-religion talk policy.

The way I read the OP he didn't want to discuss he wanted to be PM'd, but reading comprehension was never my strong suit.

And here I've been thinking this was a place for mountain bikers who like discussing matters of, well; Mountain biking! I also thought that when people had questions about their faith, they consulted with their rabbis...reverends...priests...?...aw what the hell, you get the picture!

The part about they don't discriminate is not entirely true. It's not just mormons that part applies to though.....

I personally like a lively discussion in the Pub, mtn biking or not.
I say arguing, discussing or otherwise referencing religion is the most pointless type of chatter, but boy is it fun to watch.

Also remember arguing on the internet is just like getting a gold medal in the Special Olympics……

There's absolutely no problem with a religious discussion in the Pub. The moment it crosses the line from discussion to disrespectful or a thread is created to stir up the pot is when it becomes problem.

Ummm...isn't the pub for discussing things mostly not related to biking? I'm not religious at all, but quite enjoy the discussions pertaining to the topic. I usually tend to agree with George Carlin (RIP). It's interesting to see people's views on the subject. I have a buddy that chased a Mormon girl forever and it was quite the interesting trek. They are really nice people (well, all the ones I have met anyway), and the girls are pretty much always smokin hot. I'd pick one up in heart beat if there wasn't that whole 'going to church' problem that came along with it.
