There is a class action suit pending against them already(Jiffy Lube). Funny they know they've been caught but they keep doing it. But they aren't the only ones. I took my truck to Goodyear (Scheer Tire) in Corona and they said they flushed the tranny fluid, which I checked before and after . When I pointed out to the mechanic that the fluid was still dark and I believed had not been changed he told me this was the natural color of the fluid they used. When I asked to see a sample of the fluid, he told me he wasn't allowed to do this. I asked for the manager and they told me he would be back later. I left my truck and came back later. When I talked to the manager he said there had been a mix up and the fluid hadn't been changed but they had now fixed it. I looked and sure enough the fluid was now a completely different color and clean. I then asked for my filters that had been taken from my truck (I know what these look like) and they tried to tell me the filters they were showing my came off my truck, they weren't even close. When I told the manager about this he then became angry and told me if I was unhappy to take him to court. I paid the ransom fee to get my truck out, and considered taking him to court, but is it worth it? What could I hope to gain by suing him for a couple hundred dollars? Is this going to stop them? I don't think so.

I get my stuff done at Wal*Mart not only is done fast and good, but it's cheaper than if i bought the oil and filter and did it myself ( @ LB Town Center)

I learned a long time ago to how to do my own car maintenance (fluids, brakes, etc) but sometimes you just don't have the time to do it yourself anymore. I went there once and played dumb looking for an oil change and you'll be surprised at the crap they try to sell you. STAY AWAY from them at all cost.

I am a mechanic and while I work on heavy equipment I know how the car shops work. There are 2 types of payment methods for mechanics out there, flat rate and hourly. Your dealerships, jiffylube, et cetera are flat-rate i.e. every job pays a certain amount of time. The mechanic then gets paid based on an hourly rate for that time. Lets say an oil change, fuel filter, air filter, tranny flush, fill and filter pays 2 hours. The Mechanic does it in one hour. He still gets paid for 2 hours. So lets say that he foregoes the fuel filter change (because they seldom go bad in gas engines) and doesn't change the tranny filter ( changing the fluid takes 5-10 minutes, changing the filter involves dropping the tranny pan, finding a filter, etc and chances are you will never know the difference) He just dropped a job that pays 2 hours, that he can do in one hour down to fifteen minutes. On a busy day it is possible for a busy mechanic to clock 40 hours. in one day. That is Flat rate. I think Wal-Mart pays hourly (I think) meaning that if they do 5 cars in one hour they get paid for one hour. If they do one car they still get paid for one hour. So the mechanics there typically take a little more time and pay more attention to your vehicle. Additionally they usually won't try to up sell you anything because Wal-Mart barely makes any money on their automotive service. They make their money when you are waiting for your car and go inside and shop. The draw back is that the guys who work there aren't the sharpest pencils in the drawer (wal-mart greeter anyone?) So every once in a while they won't screw an oil filter down all the way or forget to put an oil plug in (about once every 2000-3000 cars) So checking behind them is a must. The best thing to do is find a guy who is a mechanic whom you already have a personal relationship with and do buisness with him. If that is not an option, go to Wal-Mart but check the oil level afterwards, don't just drive off. If there are any discrepancies with the print out you recieve at the end of the service (by law you must recieve an itemized reciept of what was done) talk to the service manager. And if you have any questions talk to me.

To change my own oil costs me over 16 dollars to go to Wal Mart and have them do it costs 16 dollars and they take care of the used oil. I do watch if I get anything else done. Last time there they told me my air filter was dirty and I should replace it. I asked to see it and later on the told me it just needed blowing out and wouldn't need to be changed till next time. These I change myself as the cost less then 20 dollars but they'll charge over 30.

man, my exp. with jiffy was the first and only. i then had a very busy schedule and didnt have time to go buy all the stuff and do it at home, (even though ive done it a dozen times before that), so i took it to these jokers. well to start, when i got in my truck and buckled up, i noticed my wipers were missing. they told me they took them off because they were bad, but didnt have the right one to replace so they just put the old ones in the bed.. WTF!? that sparked my interest in the quality of the rest of my work, so i got out and popped the hood... noticed one of my bolts that holds the air box shut was replaced with a zip tie, called the head dee-dee-dee over, "oh yeah, well the bolt was stripped" i reply "gimmie some cutters, i want to look inside" sure enough, my K&N was replaced with a paper filter, i promptly checked the trash cans, i was able to retrieve it. i specifically told them not to touch my fuc**n filter but they insisted (yes the sticker was on the box!), that was the end of them, i havnt let anyone else touch my ranger except for the smog guy...
