Unhappy Steve Irwin dies

Sadly, the Crocodile Hunter is no more. Stingray accident while filming a documentary.

I think that sucks! I liked him. He was over the top and all, but I also thought he had a good nature about him, too. Bummer most of all because he had young kids. His poor wife... Hope they had a good agent and residuals plus savings.

man, that is sad....
Indeed, he was doing what he loved and over the years generated lots of love, respect, and interest in nature and wildlife.

Not to be insensitive, but of all things to get him, it was a sting-ray? Must have been one giant stingray to be able to get him in the chest....I've seen video of a "large" stingray (maybe 4 ft wide) snapping a broom-handle like it was a toothpick...and the barbs have a poisonous sheath, just to add insult to injury.

They said that being stung is rare and usually you can recover from it, but since he got it in the heart, it killed him almost instantly..

Sucks for his wife and kids...

Really with all the stuff he would do with poisonous snakes and other deadly animals I thought he might someday be killed and I was suprized when I heard it was a stingray. The ray did have a 10 inch stinger though and from what I read it went in under his ribcage and into his heart. He knew the risks. I don't think he ever really thought he'd die from any of his exploits. I do feel for him and his loved ones though. I always wished he wouldn't take those kind of chances.

A great man who taught us all more about respecting the land we live in (and ride on). Just watched a show with my wife about him filmed in 2000. His humor and knowlege will be missed........who else names their daughter after their favorite croc and dog?

very sad to see him go I always enjoyed his enthusiasm and personality when working. However when I heard about his passing I will tell you I was not very surprised, especially when you take into consideration all the huge risks he took on a daily basis.I guess it goes to show you the odds will catch up with you eventually, unfortunately for him it was death rather than injury.

Ya, that really friggin sucks. I feel so sorry for his family. I told my son about it today and he cried. We watch his show all the time.

Some say he was a bit of a kook, but I don't think that's accurate. I always just thought it was his love and passion for animals and nature that made him so intense--which I respect a great deal. Aren't we all just about the same when it comes to our passion--MTB'ing? Plus, he was no poser either. He knew his stuff and it's a shame that a freak accident such as that is what got him.

The world lost a good one.

I dont recall anyone saying that they didn't see it coming.

Very sad situation for his family and the lives he touched. Like others have said, he truly was passionate about what he did and that was what made him so fun to watch.

hey it's sad to see anyone leave early but the only difference between this guy and the grizzly man was he got paid.

anyone recall when he put his son in harms way with a croc? nothing like pulling a "king of pop", pop.

C'mon killa Cali Kid, you're comparing grizzly brain dead man with Steve Irwin? What benifit did grizzly man have for animals? I can only think of one. He fed a bear, with himself.

I'm sure you're a great guy and all, but you're kind of off your rocker with that comment.

no comparison? look at the pictures above. crikey i say.

note - absolutely no disresect to his family, friends, fans as I am sure he will be missed but as others suggest above and in my opinion not a huge surprise with manner he conducted his business
