You're right, just like it's no surprise that race car drivers die. However, you're not going to compare somebody like Dale Earnhardt to some moonshine running hack because they both drive fast. Steve Irwin knew what he was doing. Grizzly boy was a brain donor who didn't know any better. He literally was playing russian roulette. Steve Irwin was not. Nor are those like Jeff Corwin.

Grizzly boy was some guy who lived with the Grizzlys up in Alaska for a while and got to seriously believeing they were his friends. He had a few documentaries on the Discovery Channel and one other. A friend of mine went to one of his "talks" and told me, some day that guy is going to be bear food.

I was a little perturbed sometimes when I watched Steve Irwin, I didn't understand why he could risk so much knowing he had a family. He had a responsibilty to them and I'm not sure he accepted it. No disrespect intended, I just didn't feel he should be doing what he was doing after they had children and when he took his infant son into the alligator pen while feeding this huge beast, I knew that was wrong regardless of how much control he felt he had.

So, if you crashed and died while riding, I guess we'll all say, "We should've seen it coming. Mountain biking is dangerous. He shouldn't have conducted his business that way." Dude--we're talking about the death of an actual person here. You are disrespecting him and the Grizzly Bear guy. Say what you want about them, whether they were "asking for it" or not, have some compassion. I mean, the one thing you have to add to the conversation is "we should've seen it coming"??

You have a very valid point, but you or I know absolutely nothing about crocodile behavior. If you look at the videos, you'll see the alligator didn't want anything to do with Steve. All it was after was the bloody food in Steve's hand. I highly doubt Steve would have ever done such a thing at the beginning of his crocodile wrangling career. He knew about as much about crocs then as you or I do now. At the time he had his baby with him, he had probably spent thousands upon thousands of hours studying and being with crocodiles. I can say all day long that "I'd never do that." Well of course I wouldn't, because I'm an electrician and not an expert on crocodile behavior.

However, I didn't like one bit when Steve looked away from the croc and looked at his baby. That right there is just plain nuts. He took his eyes off of what could have literally killed him. Being overly confident can get you hurt.

There was an entire TV special and a movie devoted to it. Do a google search for "grizzly man" and "timothy treadwell".

I was watching one of the The Croc's Rule tribute marthon the other day, and they talked about that incedecnt with the baby. He said he had just finished feeding the croc and it was sluggish and full. He also went on to say they had 9 spotters with 6 of them in the inclosure with Steve watching them. The most interesting part to me was they showed a differnt angle, and the croc did not appear to be as close to them as it did on the angle that got all the air time.

Later Steve and Terry went on to say how they live at the zoo, and it is best to introduce the baby to the Crocs, in a safe controlled enviroment at a young age, when they are as Steve put it a "clean sponge soaking up all this information".

The world will miss Steve, and the animal kingdom will as well. But when I go, hopefully at a ripe old age, hopefully it is doing something that I love doing.
