Unbelievable. I really don't understand how this happens to a (semi)big-named cyclist in the biggest race of the year with the most media. How could you NOT do everything in your power to insure that you're not ingesting any banned substances? They do have a team doctor, right? What the hell was he doing? Of course I'm just assuming that it was an accidental dose of something that was in a pain killer or something of the sort, and not that he was jamming steroids into his veins. Anyway, I just don't understand how with all of the controversy surrounding The Tour (regarding doping) that teams aren't more diligent in their steps to prevent this.

Can it really give you THAT kind of an boost though? I was under the impression that the performance increase would be negligable.

Doping is widespread throughout professional road cycling, especially considering the amount of money involved for the tour winner. It's just unfortunate Landis got caught.

devastating. it was so cool to kick euro ass in the "post-lance" era. and what's worse it's a huge blemish for american cycling.

even if it was purposely done...just injecting any sterioids or anything wont make your faster, it just helps you train harder. He still had to put in all the hard work training.

Of course it makes you faster. Steroids are used to help your muscles recover and rebuild faster than normal therefore allowing you to train harder. You're going to be a lot stronger the next day compared to someone who doesn't use them.

This might sound stupied, but is it possible that he could have been set up? Who conducts the test, the French? Does anyone provide oversight on them? I don't know if he really did it, just curious how the system works. I know the Dutch did a review of Armstrongs deal and they not only stated Armstrong did nothing wrong, but stated the French officials were very unfair to him. It just sucks! Me coming from the running world, I'm used to this. We just had the defending gold medal winner in the 100m get in trouble for the same thing.

I'm just saying, there's two sides to every story (trust me, I heard some very unique ones). Its not that I think he is innocent (I really have no idea what to think), I'm just saying maybe he got set up. He probably didn't, but it makes me feel better about the whole thing.

oh well he messed up. his problem on how to fix it. it sucks, but it seems that these things are now a fixture in most professional sports one way or another. nascar excluded, that's not a sport lol
what if he just had too many redbulls before the ride?

Listen, I just think it's horrible that Americans are getting persecuted for having more sack than the rest of the world. C'mon! It's a crime to have more testosterone! And, of course it's exogenous! It's a gift from God because he hates the French! This is so obvious. Floyd has bigger balls than anyone else and now he has to pay for it. What is this? AYSO? I mean, even Lance had bigger nuts, er, nut and they went after him too. I think that the French should just get over their genital envy and, well, surrender to the fact that Americans are better and they still suck.

(I'm French-Canadian. Calm down. They're jokes.)

Being a roadie and a mtb'er I pay a lot of attention to the major tours and have been listening and reading about the doping accusations for a while now. Most of the top cyclists are now talking about boycotting the major tours until the UCI can do somewhat better on the testing. Almost all of the riders accused are still saying they did not do any drugs.
The guys know they're going to be tested as cycling is the most tested of all professional sports. This being the case, don't you think they'd know better then to do any drugs? The other side to this is that testosterone will not do much for you until you have been taking it for a while and the truth is it will bulk you up, just the opposite of what a cyclist would want.
A few posts back someone mentioned steroids, this was never mentioned in any of the tests. The reason he was stripped of the win was for synthetic testosterone.
Could this have been planted? Definately so, but will we ever learn of it? I don't know. What I do know is almost all the major sponsors are also getting fed up with all this drug talk/use and are considering not endorsing any more teams. We could lose all the gains we have made in bringing professional cycling to the forefront of sports. My suggestion would be a lifetime ban for anybody caught doing any kind of performance enhancing drugs. But there must be two different testing parties who have no connection with each other or no gain from reporting false tests. I'm still believeing in Landis and I believe him when he say's he didn't take it knowingly.
