Gotta agree, I have mp3's from all of the old stuff. Just about the only metal band worth listening to today is Slayer.

Don't forget Anthrax. I didn't really start appreciating them until after I watched the SOD Live At Budokan video.

Metallica can eat a bag of shit. Kirk Hammett is such a retard with his face studs sticking through his jaw. The only thing worth listening to from them is And Justice For All and earlier.

ANTHRAX was the shiznit!

"I'm the law", "Caught in a mosh", "War Dance", just a few of my favorite songs by them.

Was? Unless they do something stupid like Metallica, they will forever be the shiznit. Sort of like Jimi Hendrix is the shiznit, despite the fact that his body is just a rotting corpse.

I've heard some of the more recent stuff, and wasn't as hyped on it as I am with their older stuff, thus the "was". Kinda like Iron Maiden....everything after TailGunner sucked in my opinion, even that album was questionable.

My first concert was Anthrax opening for Maiden at Irvine Meadows back in 89', i was in 8th grade.

That's too bad about the newer stuff. I felt the same way about Slayer's stuff though. I liked every release from Decade of Agression and prior. The new stuff, without Dave Lombardo, is just kind of weak in the speed department. I don't listen to it for the satan crap, I listen for the speed and coreness. The newer stuff just didn't do it for me. The new Cult single sounds awesome, but the anti-christ lyrics are just a bit too in your face for me. I guess that means, for me, Slayer falls under the "was" category. Bummer.

All the new bands who are trying so hard to be alternative, pretty much are today's Top 40, so they pretty much suck.

There's no way my mom would have let me do that action in the 8th grade. I'll bet that was a killer concert. Did you see Anthrax when they were in town last? Aren't they playing this month or next too?

I didnt see them when they recently played. Not too sure if they are playing anytime soon around here.

My mom and dad gave me the full on "just say no" talk, it was awesome. The best part was riding down from Long Beach in the back of my friends 87' Toyota pick up freezing our asses off wearing our fleece lined levi's jean jackets!!! The ride home was even more cold, but we had our $5.00 boot-legged Iron Maiden long sleeve shirts on, so we were stoked!!!

Dude, there's tons of great metal out there right now!!! Slayer the only good band? What?! I listen to a lot of metal. It's not on the radio and hardly on TV at all. But, metal is out there, drinking battery acid, eating nails, and getting stronger. Do a little searching and it's not hard to find some quality metal. Here's a few of my recommendations:

Nevermore - "This Godless Endeavor" - brutal and awesome. Not mallcore. Great guitar work, sweet vocals. Century Media website with audio and video.

Opeth - "Deliverance", "Blackwater Park," "Ghost Reveries" - look, all I'm going to say is if you haven't listened to Opeth then you can't claim there's no good metal out there. These guys kill! They are what Metallica should be!

Devin Townsend - "Synchestra" "Terria" "Infinity" - This guy is a genius in my opinion. Not death metal or doom metal, but straight-ahead, total commitment metal with intelligence and melody. Progressive and mind-blowing. My current favorite. Listen to "Gaia" from 'Synchestra' Or "Storm" from 'Accelerated Evolution'

Strapping Young Lad - "Alien" "City" "The New Black" - Townsend's brutally aggressive metal band. Will make your children blind if you listen too loudly. "You Suck" http://www.strappingyounglad.com/

Mastodon - "Leviathan" - A ripping epic concept album. Metal meets Moby Dick. You'll actually want to read the book after this album.

Meshuggah - "Catch 33" "Destroy Erase Improve" - Jazz fushion meets death metal. Will have you questioning your sanity.

Dragonforce -"Sonic Firestorm" - You liked Iron Maiden? Love that power metal? Dragonforce is insanely fast and totally melodic. Get it and you'll smile while thy head bangs fiercely. Listen here! Go to Sound and Video.

I also enjoy Dream Theater, Fates Warning, OSI, System of a Down, Satyricon, Isis, Black Label Society, Megadeth, Pain of Salvation, Amorphis, In Flames and Tool. There is a LOT of good metal out there.

Good call Gurp. Dream Theatre. That's one I haven't listened to in a long time.

I didn't like "Octavarium" very much. I tried to listen to it, but found it pretty pedestrian. However, I thought "Train of Thought" and "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence" were very good. "Images and Words" is still a classic.
