Question Interstate moving company?

Anyone have a good experience (or a friend/relative/coworker that had a good experience) with a moving company to go from CA (OC) to XX?

Lots to choose from but many are scams....

Keep aware from moving brokers as well. Had a very bad experiance with one a few years back. Complete scam. They were based in Fla but cannot recall name (must be some way my mind is protecting me from mental scaring)

btw- when you outta here? Not that we ever ridden together, but the guys from STR having a big ride/send off bash for good measure?

Thanks Cali Kid! Yeah, I've heard that "brokers" are bad news.

so far this website has provided much good info:
http://www.movingscam.com/

Anywho, I'll be here until Sept, so still plenty of opportunities for good riding and meeting cool new cats!

We are kicking around ideas for shin-digs/killer rides. Von-Skipp is off to school before too long as well, so the scent of "celebrations and farewells" will be in the air this summer before too long!

Lance,

I had a great experience with ABF U-Pack. They were the cheapest I found, and what I liked is that you pack and store your items yourself, and pick them up when you get to your destination, at your leisure. I'm not sure if you are looking for someone to move things for you though.

I bought, I think, 3 feet of space. So, it's 3ft (d) x 14ft (w) x 10ft (h) in volume. You take your belongings, back them how you want, and secure everything, and then you place the supplied large metal/wood screen that holds all your items from falling. Once you get to NC, go to the nearest freight yard and that same truck will be waiting for you.

Hope that helps.

Thanks mcgrath! I'll have to pick your brain about them more next time we ride.

I was just check out the ABF website and I'm liking them more and more. MUCH less to stress about compared to hiring a moving company and they appear to be much cheaper than renting a Penske or Uhaul. Even those were something like $5000 JUST FOR THE TRUCK!

Yeah, they were way cheaper than U-Haul, or any other moving company service. I was going to go through Mayflower, but they required I be home at thier set specific time. It worked out really well in Socal becuase the freight yard was really close to my first apartment. You may want to check out the raleigh-Durham area though, or call them and see if they have a place nearby. I would be surprised if they don't.

Sounds like you did "terminal to terminal"?

They do have a Durham-area terminal, but I'm thinking of "terminal to door" since the road in front of our house is so small...A bit more logistics on this end, but still seems easier than the alternatives.

btw - not positive but I think Brandi from the Path recently moved to NC. If so, not sure if Raleigh/Durham, but if you are not down with that area yet you should contact the Path and if he's same I am sure he would hook you up with 411 on trails and LBS. he's a good guy - helped me out a few times in the past

Man, thanks for that info too! I know few other places that rival SoCal's mtb trail options, culture, community, etc....but I am hoping to find some decent ST in that area and cool peeps to ride it with.
