Damn, I would have never guessed this would get as many responses. I can't figure out the multi-qoute so I'll just try to give a run down. Been here for 6 years.
Currently using: ACAD 2006 (moving to 2009 soon we hope) We do petro-chem engineering as a company. I work in the Civil/Structural dept. Use ACAD for all 2D plans & detailing. Civil 3D 2007 (again hope 2009 soon) We our big projects right now are grass-roots tank farm and storage facilities (if yoo've been to SD latly/ the 4 new tanks going up at the 805/52 intersection) that's us. We do the grading foundations and steel supports. Graitech Advance (an ACAD over lay) for steel modeling and detailing. For the soon to be CE. good luck. We currently have two inters both starting their last year. and one resent graduate that started about 3 months ago. Look up SPECservices.com on the job boards and see what we have when you're looking. If you've finished school hit me up cuz I get a referal fee!! Glad to see that there is a large diversity of CAD people and experience. Jesse, (trailjesus right?) Don't worrie if you get in the right company always be honest in your interview. We have Mech working in electrical and civils in the Pipeline mech group. If you desire something you can always ask to shadow someone and try to learn something different. the degree gets you in the door. Then decided what you want to do. Imnop, take the plung and jump into Civil 3D you'll be surrprised at the ease with which you pick it up. Look into a company U.S. CAD I go to there user group meeting and have taken the civil training class. it wont make you a pro but you'll certainly be up and running when you're done. My goal in AU is to try and help develop our standards and gain some perspective on what it will take to move up into a CAD manager position. It's not until Dec but, I'll give a review when I get back for those that haven't been.
