Feelings get hurt in the blink of an eye. It's like stealing someones lawn sign, if it's not there, then nobody will vote for that candidate.
I also thought there were more intelligent things said than not and I actually learned a thing or two.
Lets keep it civil and talk some politics with our fellow STR'rs (?)
I'll start it off!
I'm concerned that McCain is going to pass away in office! I heard he wanted to choose Lieberman as his VP but the Head honcho's said No Way, go for the Pit Bull.
Can't a candidate make his own decision??
Thank you Liz for starting a new thread on this topic.

Let's hope the yahoos can keep the discussion respectful regardless of which side they are on.

Stop spending money on illegal aliens. America spends 3 times the amount of war on illegal aliens milking our social programs. That would be one good way to cut government spending. Although I don't think McCain is tough on illegals so my idea won't work for him.

Don't forget that George W. Bush promised change as well. He didn't lie! The economy is far worse and there is no end in sight for the war. Thank you republican party!

I guess McCain will bomb Iran when he gets in office. That's a change!

If you think you can trust a politician from either side, you are nuts.

If you think one side will look out for your financial interest you are nuts.

If you think Illegal imigrants are hurting our economy, you don't understand our economy. We get the work force cheeper by keeping them marginalized. The social spending that goes to ilegal aliens is nothing compared to what the cheep marginalized work force gives this economy. Then, the man can send them away if they do not stay in line. There is no need for due process or anything, just deport them if they get roudy. I do not believe in welfare. However, if we are going to have a destitute marginalized work force that we take advantage of, I don't care what color their skin is. Taking care of the folks that you are taking advantage of is part of the cost of doing business. It was true in the days of slavery, and it's true now.

I am most concerned about individual freedom and human rights in this country. I see the patriot act as a major concern. I do not hear either candidate talking about restoring the power of the bill of rights. I am very concerned about the ongoing erosion of the rules that protect our liberty in this country. What use is innocent till proven guilty if there is a loophole where they can call you a terrorist, and skip the whole thing? What is the defenition of terrorist anyway? Were the American revolutionaries terrorists? I gues not since history is written by the victors.

I will say the use of religion by the republican party makes me want to vomit.

For whom do I vote for if I want to be able to get an abortion while packing heat?

Form whome do I vote if I don't want to pay for coorporate welfare, private welfare, or a ware?

For whome do I vote if I am concerned about the environment, but don't believe conventional regulation is the sollution?

For whom do I vote if I want the freedom to be smart or not?

For whom do I vote if I think there are too many lawyers in this country?

For whom do I vote if I don't think the government is repsonsible for my safety, happiness etc, and I don't trust them with these issues?

For whom do I vote if I see the government as a big gang with lots of guns and cages (jails)?

For whom do I vote if I am barely comforted by the fact that our government seems to be about as good as it gets?

Oh but now I am seriously considering voting on a candidate STRICTLY on the basis of how he stands with taxes. Even though I don't agree with him on a lot of other things! And also because I get a little scared to think of one political party (be it Republican OR Democratic) controling/having a majority in nearly all branches of government (execultive, and BOTH legislative houses). Be it republicans or Democrats, I don't want either one to have a monopoly. But is money really enough to base my vote on? I may not vote at all cause I'm disgusted with both parties but then I wouldn't be able to bitch later So I am still undecided...

HAHA good catch!
I'm with you on being disgusted with the status quo, but I believe in real change. A chance to get a third party in. I'll vote again as I always do, but it won't be for the dems or rep's. Just doesn't make sence to me. Can't people see the waste? Talk about taxes if we got rid of all the corruption that goes on behind closed doors I seriously believe we could develop a budget surplus. All these pork belly projects and dirty dealings have to stop and it can't with only two parties involved.
Think outside the box.
There are other options, that are better then what we have now.

I think the gov is in way over it's head. Here are some things that I think should not be political or legal issues:

1. Gass prices, or any prices.

2. Altruism (weflare etc)

3. Drugs

4. Guns

5. religion

6. mariage

7. Health care

I don't think they do a good jib on these sorts of issues. Insitutions by nature are not to be trusted with these kind of important personal/economic issues. They will only twist things so that a select few will benefit at the cost of all functionality and credibility.

Exactly, government wasn't created to solve everybody's problems. Since when is it the American spirit to wait for "America's Promise" from Big Government? When Obama says he will deliver "America's Promise" he is giving people a sense of entitlement. That's the worng message to send to the people. Don't get me wrong - there are plenty of hard working, honest people out there who have been hurt by the economy and housing market who need help.

link/source? because google is telling me ~10 billion for illegal aliens in, and 500+ billion for the war in iraq. that's some funky math.

There's an issue regarding Obama not talked about in the mainstream media. Black Liberation Theology - This is the religious/sociological philosophy he has indoctrinated himself with over the past 20 years. Take a look and provide feedback.

For us business owners... Taxes is my main concern. I am an registered NP and vote usually for who I feel is least full of shit. But Taxes has always been a big issue for me. I guess it stems from when I use to work at the Grocery store and would see these welfare people come in and buy everything on food stamps and then whip out a wad of cash and buy booze. Give me a break. Don't even get me started on Unions in todays economic system. Why pay equal to each if there are cleary some who are better and some that lack drive and skill? That's like telling a student that as long as he/she is in their chair by a certain time, he or she will pass. No participation needed. Or it may be the fact that when I went into to apply for help with college I was denied because I had a job. They actually told me that if I quit I would qualify. To me that is just backasswords. If you have a drive to get a job, bust your ass to make things happen for yourself, why should you get shut out because some other loser who has no drive to get a job gets to go to college for free. Thats not the American Dream in my book.

Bigger government, bigger social programs, more taxes drag this place down. As a business owner, I feel many people don't realize what it actually takes to make ends meet. The risk you take to own and run a successful business is immense. And then to take on employees... you know, provide jobs to the people that never want to take the risks you took and feel they deserve time for smoke breaks after demanding and area for a smoke break. I guess they forget that by law in CA I have to pay half of their health insurance costs if I want to have a health insurance plan at work. Great, some jackass lawmaker says that I have to pay for a smokers health insurance. Nice buddy. See what I am getting at here. If we vote one way, there might be a possibility that I have to pay more taxes to take care of the health insurance costs of that rather unhealthy non active, don't care about their own body, able to make a change but unwillingly to care, sippin' iced coffee at starbucks (is that better). Way to pick a candidate LEFTers.

All I have to say is that when voting, think about the fact that increasing the social programs cost everyone. Increasing the size of government is just downright crazy. Look at Polosi (don't know if that is right). Poeple should be appauled things aren't getting done regardless of what side you believe in. American's forget that these people in government are your employees. Why pay someone who doesn't perform and won't be open to other viewpoints? Its just not right and I am sorry, the left wingers are acting like 12 year olds with the stupid stuff they have been pulling by not passing budgets in this state and passing reform at the Federal level. The American Dream is not a right, it never has been and shouldn't ever be one. Its something you have to work for and protect. Why should we collectivly help someone who really doesn't even give a hoot about this place?
