So I grabbed this bike from my grandparent's up North and as I was leaving my Grandma expressed interest in it after it was finished so I have decided to restore this thing and hand it back to her. The problem is I have never disassembled a bike before and I am completely lost right now. I have the chain guard, wheels and fender off. The Handle bar I will get out later today by just removing the grips. But I have taken all the hardware I can find out but still the fork and handlebar mount will not budge. I also have no idea how to get the pedals, crank and gear off.
Here is the lovely 1967 (guessin on year) Schwinn Hollywood I am working with: ![]() So any insight you can provide would be awesome! Thanks! Jutty |

Pedals should be easy. Should have a flat spot that you can put a wrench on 9/16th maybe and give them a spin. I want to say the drive side goes on lefty tighty.

Go to this message board, and from here, you'll find more than you could possibly imagine on how to restore and customize old bikes.

put the stem bolt back into the stem, but dont tighten it all the way.
tap it with a hammer to loosen the wedge.

This stuff is your best friend for any type of restoration project with old rusted bolts, fittings, and the like. I've used it for years on everything from old cars to old Aircraft Carriers. It works wonders after just letting the parts soak for just a few moments. For the really stuck stuff, spray it on and leave it over night.
That looks like a really cool project by the way, have fun and post up some pictures of your progress and when you have it cherry.
