My dad just bought a 1998 Ford Escort off of our friend for 500 bucks. It drives nice... considering. 30 miles to the gallon, and a 10 gallon tank, so 40 bucks or so to fill her up.
I have a feeling when i get my license in a year or so he will pass down the car to me.
I have a few questions. Does anyone have hookups on a new windshield, some new speakers, possibly a new stereo thats basic with a single disc cd player, and a new air conditioner.?

fry's always has cd players on sale for under 100. ac is expensive to fix. you can get a ticket for a badly cracked windshield. not an item you can get cheaper without a hookup.

windshields are cheap, had a couple viejos drive to my work do it in the parking lot for 100 dollars cash, it was a yota pickup btw, i found them on yahoo local

Glass hookups - use chinese glass and not the pro stuff (PPG etc...) and you can get out for sub 100 installed if you know some glass peeps.

Stereo.... dude, sub 100 for a basic cd playing unit.....

Get it dialed in mechanically, and drive the piss out of it. You have windows, dont worry about AC

My dad will be driving it for another year or so, and he's a cop, so the windshield rule goes out the window for him..
And the crack has been in the windshield for 7 years and is still good

AC isn't expensive. Just go to the junkyard and rip out a system from another Escort. Those things will be a dime a dozen. REplace all the orings and button it up. Get the correct belt from the auto parts store. Bring it to an AC place to put a vacuum on the lines and fill er up.
