Default Official 2008 Beijing Olympics Thread(All Events)


Beijing held its formal opening ceremony today for the 2008 Summer Olympics. The ceremony, held in the National Stadium known as the Bird's Nest, was attended by thousands, and watched by millions more on television. Below are some highlights of the nearly 4-hour performance.

it was a mind-blowing, stunningly beautiful show-- but i couldn't help but feel that i was watching the borg as they began their assimilation of us.

At least there are other sporting events that require skill and not just a good doctor.

I hope this doesn't derail the thread, but I am really surprised with myself that I have no desire to watch the games, due to the fact that it is in China.

I mean I've never really had a big interest in the games in general, but I would always sit and watch a few select sports.

This year I have no desire to watch anything related to the games. I even find myself going so far as to avoid watching highlight clips on the news. Strange.

Anyway, the photos look like they put on an impressive show and hopefully we get the gold!

And the econimic resources, and the manufacturing capability. It sounded like Bob Costas was saying what China wanted him to say.

I think this is China's coming out party as the dominant super power of the world.

The show was breath taking.
