GRAPHIC TECHNICIAN III

Positions allocated to this classification are highly experienced positions responsible for the design and production of the more complex computer and manually produced communications materials using a wide variety of computer graphics and optical equipment. Works under minimum supervision and guidance.

This position is unique in that its primary function is the production of web page design assignments to support Metropolitan’s internal and external websites. The position requires expert level web development design and production experience using Macromedia, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash and HTML programming. Web support is the primary function of this position but it will also produce the most complex graphic art designs and communication materials; execute the design, production and preparation of manually prepared exhibits, displays and presentation materials; and support production for offset printing and other media using a variety of computer graphics and optical equipment, techniques and tools.

Other duties include: Designs and prepares or directs the preparation of rough comprehensives, finished comprehensives and final artwork for District websites and publications and a wide variety of visual communications materials; Assists in planning of and directing of photography and making photo selection for web page design and printed materials; Provides journey level desktop publishing design/production using Adobe illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat, and Microsoft Office applications; Traditional hands-on art department design/production i.e. use of graphic art measuring, cutting, and adhesive tools for mounting/framing posters as well as other typical non-computer-aided production duties. Works with and assists the staff in the planning, design and preparation of exhibits, displays, slide presentations and video productions; Coordinates workflow with printers and/or other outside vendors involved in the publications process including cost negotiations, proofing, Quality Control, and logistics with vendor.
